✨ Things I wish I knew before my first dance convention… ✨

If your dancer is heading to convention, there’s a LOT to take in! New teachers, new choreography, hundreds of dancers, long days, and so many opportunities to learn.

Here are a few things we wish every dance family knew:

💫 You don’t have to know every teacher. One of the best parts of convention is being introduced to new teachers, styles, and perspectives.

🧠 Your dancer won’t get every step and that’s okay! Convention choreography moves quickly. Learning to pick up, adapt, and keep going is part of the experience.

💪 Corrections are a GOOD thing. Encourage your dancer to listen, apply the correction, and try again. That’s where so much growth happens!

❤️ Most importantly, let them experience it. Convention isn't about being the best dancer in the room. It’s about being willing to learn, try something new, and leave inspired.

And yes… they will probably come home exhausted, full of new choreography, and talking about their favorite teacher for the next three weeks. 😂

Who is packing for convention this weekend?

Whether this is your first convention or you've been going for years, you always want to make sure your dance convention bag is packed with everything you need.

Water bottle → Hydration
Snacks → Fuel between classes
Extra tights/clothes → Because things happen
Dance shoes → Multiple styles = multiple classes
Socks → It's easy to remember the shoes, but don't forget socks
Hair accessories → Want to make sure you have backup
Band-aids → Blisters can pop up at the worst times
Chapstick/gloss → Keep lips from getting chapped
Positive attitude → The most important thing in the bag

BONUS for dancers in the Mini Room: It helps to pack some coloring supplies to keep dancers entertained if there is downtime.

Dance looks different for every dancer.

For some, it’s learning their very first plié.
For some, it’s finding confidence in a new skill.
For some, it’s making their best friends.
For some, it’s discovering a love for performing.
For some, it’s working toward a big goal.
And for some, it’s simply the one hour each week where they get to be completely themselves.

Dance isn’t just about the steps we learn. It’s about the confidence, friendships, challenges, celebrations, and memories that happen along the way.

We’re so excited for another year of discovering what dance looks like for each of our students. 🩰
