Thirsty Fox Stables at Bowdown Farm

This may be a controversial post for a business page.

I want to honor the memories of these wonderful creatures, but I also want to remind anyone who may be struggling with a similar decision, that being responsible for these noble creatures often comes with sadness.

Please know that it is always a wholly unselfish decision to make sure that their last day isn't their worst day.

These beautiful ladies were all well into their thirties and were either suffering from painful conditions that could not longer be successfully treated, or we felt it perilous to push them through another NY winter. They were also VERY bonded herd-mates, which is why we chose this day for all three.

Were they eating and drinking well? Pretty much. Were they spry with a little light left in their eyes? Pretty much.
Did they embark on their journeys peacefully, with a full belly and secure in the knowledge that they were adored. Absolutely.

Be brave. You may never forgive yourself if you wait until you feel better about it. It's really not about us. This was an incredibly hard day, but a beautiful day.

They gave SO MUCH over their combined century of life. This was our gift to them. A beautiful breezy day when the sun was high.

It was a very 'Ribbony' weekend, with everyone coming home with some. I even won the raffle at the LKTA! 🤣
Check out our drill team Sergeant, Sophie Ferraro and our PitBoss, Becca Jean Gibbs and their great, great horses doing cowy things and looking gorgeous!
Our other crew even managed a 2nd place at the Hunter pace.

The LKTA is the one we most look forward to every year because the people are the very finest! The course is pleasant and perfectly prepared every time and approachable for all levels and disciplines. It is what fun in the saddle is all about!
