I’ll admit it… I don’t know much about liberty work. 😂 But I am an insane stickler for ground manners, a habit that was instilled in me from the very beginning of my time with horses.
I put a ton of groundwork into every horse I work with, but especially the babies. If they have a clear understanding of what I’m asking from the ground, translating that understanding to the saddle becomes SO much easier. I also don’t think I’ve started two babies exactly the same. They’re all individuals, and ultimately they all need something a little different, but good, clear groundwork is always at the forefront.
So today, I didn’t have a babysitter for this 3yo and the radar was looking less than promising so I figured… let’s see what we can do at liberty.
Turns out, he’s a little smarty🥹
A month ago, he was bold, a little pushy, and absolutely wanted NO part of anyone being above his head… which, you know… typical baby stuff. Today? No halter, no tack, and still willingly parks himself at the mounting block like he’s been doing it forever.
I was clearly thrilled and also a little shocked that he just… did exactly what he was supposed to do. 😂
Such a big day for this little guy, and a pretty good reminder that the boring groundwork stuff really does matter. ❤️

We have a couple training spots opening up in my program.
14+ years of experience developing young horses, show horses, and horses needing a tune-up or a new direction. I’m looking for a few quality horses and committed owners to add to the program.

Honestly jumps around with a good lead change, and comes out the same every day. Requires some maintenance to be at his best.

I am so proud of this pair for doing all the things ❤️ sometimes selling horses is stressful, and it adds a bit more when you’re selling a baby you made. So grateful that Jetty found Lisa, I couldn’t have asked for a better home for him or match for them both. He truly looks fantastic and I am just so happy for where he landed. I love getting these updates, great things to come for them!! ❤️❤️

Last year we switched to feeds, and truly couldn’t be happier with the decision. The dapples on this one from the wholesome blends balancer are like whoa ! 😍😍😍
