Based out of Sault Ste Marie, I dive the St Mary's River and Whitefish Point Underwater Preserve on a regular basis. I have also dove locations around the world including Phuket and Ko Phi Phi, Thailand; Beau Vallon and Victoria, Seychelle Islands; Bahrain; Shark Cove, Table Tops, and various wrecks around Oahu; Catalina Islands, CA; various wrecks around Morehead City, NC; and several other Great Lakes wrecks.

Temps warming up today Thank God! It feels like we have had 8 months of winter, I didn't realize I had moved to Anchorage! Looking forward to a leisurely dive this weekend, might even drag out the wetsuit! Air temps hit 75 here for the first time and according to the Weather service surface temps near Whitefish point are hitting the 50's and approaching the 60's in shallow water, Summer is finally here!!

Nice quick dive today, went to Monacle Lake. Dove the Spawn Reef, which is nothing more than some timbers and cover on a small ledge. Surface water temp was 52F. I hung out at 41ffw for 37 minutes, temp at depth 44F. Vis was only 5-7 ft and the suspended sediment was really thick. Didn't see a single fish but I did see some native crayfish. Ready for NC and some warm water diving!

Picking up a new Dive computer soon, after consulting several highly experienced divers whom I trust I have narrowed it down to the Shearwater line. Going to stop in and see Doug at Scuba North for some hands on time with it on the way to NC. Anyone interested in an outstanding dive shop in Northern Michigan give Doug a call.

So plans are finalized, I will be living out of my RV on the beach in North Carolina for the summer with my wife and kids, while I complete the IDC and SRD, on a side note, anyone out there use a E-log to track your dives. I haven't been logging mine for a while but need to in the future, and I use multiple computers for different situations so I need to be able to transfer dives from multiple computers to one main log. Anyone have recommendations?

Summer dive season heating up, I will be attending the PADI Dive Master and Instructor Development Course over the summer, if all goes according to plan by Sept I will an Instructor. I am also completing a Scientific Research Diving course, followed by the SRD Instructor course, so I hope to be able to train divers here in the Soo soon. You all can follow my progress if you like. I will be blogging about it for the University Biology Dept at http://lssudiver.blogspot.com/ The blog will be geared more toward introducing new divers to diving and research diving. But it will also follow my progress on my research for my Thesis. I just posted my first comment the other day.

I am hoping to be making a few Ice Dives here in the near future, just need to find a dive buddy willing to go along, anyone in the Soo want to make a few dives this month let me know. They will be simple air dives max 10-15 meters. We have a half meter of ice to get through too!

Night dive in Lake Superior at the Whitefish Preserve, trying out my new Light Monkey 12w can light. Still having some trim issues, I think the argon tank may need to be repositioned.

My god summer has gone fast, we will be in the 40's here tonight. But alas I have my new DUI so cold water is no longer a factor!

Took out the new Drysuit and fourth element undergarments over the weekend, lesson learned... Need more weight, for some reason the undergarment messed with my trim. I kept wanting to roll to the left? gotta work that out.

Little disappointed with the way the week went for diving. We got into Beaver Island late Tuesday and it stormed all day Wednesday so I didn't get a chance to dive at all. Saw a lot of Lighthouses, and wreck buoys but not a single dive...better luck next time

A week from today I will be making my first dive off Beaver Island. Can't wait! Hope to have a new camera by then!

Diving shallow dives this weekend around drummond and detour, collecting mussels and sediment samples. Also placing the first of several test timbers. Testing the time it take for accumulation of zerba and quagga mussels, and the byssal intrusion over that time. Gonna be fun!
