The last reported count of homes lost was 150. The fire has now spread to over 22,000 acres and is only about 6% contained. Firefighters have been working nonstop, and the community response has been incredible—but we still have a lot of need. Many folks have been forced to evacuate, and those who have lost their homes have lost EVERYTHING. 1 in 6 people in Brantley County live below the federal poverty level. Recovery is going to be challenging- and the fire isn't even close to being done! I have been in contact with the two main donation centers in my hometown, and they’ve shared a list of the most urgently needed items (included on the flyer below). They also could use towels, underwear of all genders and sizes, new sheets, tents, air mattresses with pumps. The Savannah and Brunswick office will accept donations. If you prefer to donate financially, I’ve included a PayPal link for Brantley Family Connection + their address for checks on the flyer as well. National Physicians Week sets out March 25-31 to honor the healers dedicated to the art of medicine. In 2017, National Physicians Week highlighted the shortage of physicians in the United States against a growing landscape of minorities joining the ranks.
