We’ve got some sweet kiddos back for a refresher course with Danielle and Kate!

An ISR Refresher typically runs 3 weeks long after the initial ISR course that is 6-7 weeks in duration. We recommend ISR Refreshers 1-2 times each year to refresh previously learned skills and progress swim abilities. As children grow quickly, their center of buoyancy changes with their growth and development which is a great reason why an ISR refresher helps to sharpen and maintain those aquatic safety skills!

If you’re interested in ISR, please reach out to join our mailing list for upcoming sessions, safety tips, and more! 🐠 🏊‍♂️ ☀️

Hello! My name is Danielle Hess and I am a wife and mom of soon to be 5 littles- one boy and
four girls. My husband and I met when we were in college at the United States Military
Academy at West Point. When my family settled in Savannah, Georgia in 2018, I went to
nursing school at Georgia Southern and became a registered nurse. I’ve always had an affinity toward the water as I lived by the ocean growing up, became a beach lifeguard at 16 years old, and was a competitive swimmer in middle school and high school.
When I was just 6 years old I saved my brother from drowning in our family pool when he was 2
years old. While my dad was filling my bike tires on the other side of the backyard, my brother,
bypassing the security of the gate to the pool, toddled into the pool area and jumped into the
deep end with no floatation device. I can’t fully explain why I went looking for him or what
made me check the pool area, but I am thankful I did and was able to jump in and bring him to
the shallow end while calling for my dad’s help. Since then, I’ve learned the value of water
safety for all- especially for our most vulnerable population- children. Since becoming a
mother myself and having been an ISR Mom watching my children go through the course, I
have become even more of an avid proponent of educating all on water safety and I am so
excited to be a part of the ISR Savannah community!

I’m SO excited to introduce one of our new-to-us ISR Instructors, Shelby!! I’ve had the honor and pleasure of knowing Shelby for 4+ years and can so confidently attest to her kind heart & calm and loving demeanor. She will begin seeing students in July for a late summer session and September for a fall session!🎉😁🙌🏼

WELCOME, SHELBY!! We can’t waiting to see all the incredible lives you touch here in Savannah!!💙💦

Hi! I’m Shelby Canclini, a Savannah-based ISR Infant Swimming Resource instructor with a passion for water safety and child confidence. Originally from Salem, Oregon, I relocated to Georgia in 2021 and have made the coastal community of Savannah my home.

With a background in healthcare as a Certified Nursing Assistant, experience as a nanny, and as a mother of three, I bring a nurturing and safety-focused approach to every lesson. My journey into infant swim instruction began close to home — watching my own daughters gain swimming skills and grow in confidence through ISR training showed me firsthand the life-changing impact of early water safety education.

Living in Savannah, where water is woven into everyday life — from the ocean and beaches to rivers and pools — I understand that teaching children to be safe in and around water isn’t just a skill, it’s a necessity. My mission is to give every family the peace of mind that comes with knowing their child is prepared, confident, and safe in the water.

Nearly half way through the year and Florida alone has lost 56 innocent little lives to drowning💔

Georgia does not publish timely and accurate drowning counts, so I can’t rattle off the number of children in our state lost so far this year to drowning. I can say though that consistently we rank in the top 5 states for child drowning statistics. Typically Florida, Texas, California, and Arizona’s numbers are ahead of ours.

Savannah has water of ALL forms, including some extremely tricky waterways!! PLEASE research and find a program that teaches independent floating. It could very literally SAVE your precious babies from joining a heartbreaking statistic💦😩

I am sick to my stomach posting this....

Florida has now lost 56 children to drowning this year. Nearly 80% of those children were between the ages of 1 and 4, and more than three-quarters of the deaths occurred in swimming pools. The most common scenario was a child getting out of the home undetected. These tragedies are preventable when families use multiple layers of protection, including active supervision, barriers, alarms, and self-rescue swim lessons.

Under 1 - 1 1.8%
1 year olds - 21 37.5%
2 year olds - 13 23.2%
3 year olds - 3 5.4%
4 year olds - 7 12.5%
5+ years - 11 19.6%

Among the 43 pool deaths:
Family Pool – 25
Airbnb/Vacation Rental Pool – 7
Neighbor's Pool – 3
Community Pool – 3
Relative/Friend Pool – 3
Hotel Pool – 1
Apartment Pool – 1

Child Got Out of the Home Undetected
31 of 56 deaths (55%)

Examples:
Slipped out a back door
Followed sibling outside
Left during nap time
Wandered from home at night
Left through a doggy door
Left while caregiver was using restroom

This remains the most common circumstance.
