R therapy tip: I love my students as they are my greatest teachers.

For prevocalic /r/ words as in “red”. The following works wonders for gliding or w/r substitution:

Have students produce 2 syllable prevocalic /r/ words (e.g. remind) first then 1 syllable words (read). Have students contrast how 2 syllable feels versus one syllable words.

Placement of prevocalic /r/ for lip rounding:

Slight bite of lower lip, elongate /r/ sound for 2 seconds with retracted lips.

Hello everyone! If you are working with /r/ students, here is your homework assignment for the week. Screen your students and determine what the correctly produced words are. Ask yourself and your students how they can become more active and take more of a leadership role in their speech. Students are the best teachers and are very creative with ideas. Can they listen to other students and determine a correct production so that they can learn to self-monitor? Maybe take home a list of the words that they can successfully produce and record themselves? Be creative and post your ideas here to share with the group!
