Women were not allowed to run the Olympic marathon until 1984. For nearly the entire modern history of the Games, officials insisted the distance was simply too punishing for a woman's body.
When the women's marathon finally made its Olympic debut in Los Angeles, an American named Joan Benoit answered every doubt in a single afternoon. Early in the race she made a bold and risky move, surging clear of the pack with many miles still to run. No one could reel her back in. She ran into the stadium completely alone and won the first women's Olympic marathon gold ever awarded.
The myth that women were too fragile for endurance did not survive contact with the truth. Today women fill the start lines of every major marathon on earth, and many of them run faster than the men who once told them to stay home.
Progress rarely shows up politely. Usually someone has to go first, take the risk, and refuse to look back.

Every step is a conversation.
One step says, “Kaya pa.”
Another step says, “Why are we even doing this?”
Then another step reminds you, “Because I want to become better.”
And maybe that’s the beauty of every run.
It gives you space to listen to yourself, argue with your doubts, and slowly prove that you are stronger than the voice telling you to stop.
Because running is never just about moving forward on the road.
Sometimes, it’s also about moving forward within yourself.
