Pinto Park

Today, the 17th Pinto Park Opening Day was played. The morning started with some ominous weather but luckily ended up being a non factor. The same two team format for the last two years was in play today. Alex with the 1st pick took Pinto, O'Toole, Fonte and Joey for his team. Chris with the 2nd pick took Nick, Tambo, Occh and Jack for his squad. Game 1 was a good one, ending on a two out walk off home run by Nick off Pinto. for the 1-0 win. Game 2 was a dominating one for Chris' bunch, easily taking it 9-1. Alex's team got back in the series un Game 3 behind a shutout from Pinto and a solo homer from O'Toole for a 1-0 win. Game 4 featured the turning poo tekatint of the series. Down 4-1 in the bottom of the second, Alex came up with the bases loaded and missed a go-ahead grand slam by a matter of inches. Instead taking the lead with three outs to get, it ended up being a 4-2 loss. Facing elimination, Alex's team showed great resolve winning Game 5 7-0. Another Pinto shutout and more O'Toole power leading to the victory. Game 6 was a classic. Chris' team took the lead 3-0 in the 1st scoring 3 runs off Fonte. But Alex's team stormed back to take a 4-3 lead. Pinto got the 1st out of the Top of the 2nd, before Occh came to the plate. Occh had his struggles with Pinto in the beginning of the day, but had started to find it as the series progressed. Down in the count 0-2, Pinto left one out with too much plate and Occh got just enough of it past Fonte's outstretched arm to tie the game. Nick was up next, and joined his brother with a home run of his own to give his team the lead. An insurance run was added in the Top of the 3rd, before Nick got the final three outs to seal the deal. For Nick, it was his 9th title, which is now most all time. Occh has his 8th, tied with Fasu for 2nd all time. Chris snagged his 6th, Jack his 4th, and Tambo his 2nd. Nick wins his 3rd MVP in a row in a row and 5th all time, passing Pinto for most all time. 17 years in the books! Until next year!

Three days ago, the 16th Pinto Park Opening Day was played. Just like last year, it was two teams of five playing a best of nine. That's about where the similarities ended. The captains for this year were O'Toole and Jack. O'Toole picking first, took Nick, Pinto, DeCecco and Marco. Jack picking second, took newcomer Satch, Tambo, Fasu and Alex. Last years first ever best of nine was an instant classic going the distance, with a 4-2 comeback and a walkoff hit in game nine. This year was the opposite. O'Toole's squad came out firing on all cylinders winning the first three games, none of them close, behind a power surge from DeCecco, and strong pitching and hitting from Nick and Fangaz. Jack's team won game four behind good pitching and a ridiculous power surge, both from Satch. Making his opening day debut, Satch took a while to get going with the bat. But when he did, he proved how lethal he could be homering in five straight at bats spanning across games four and five. But after game four, it was more domination for O'Toole's team, with two more easy victories to end the day with a 5-1 series win. Nick took home his 3rd title in a row 8th title which ties him with Fasu for most all time. He also added his 4th MVP, tying Fangaz. Pinto added his 7th, Marco his 3rd, and O'Toole his 2nd. DeCecco, who made his debut in 2022 playing in his 3rd straight, nabbed his first, becoming the 21st player. to call themselves an opening day champion. Until next year!

The 15th year of Pinto Park Opening Day brought changes, competitiveness and comebacks. For the 1st time in Opening Day history, 12 players was cut to 10 and 3 teams was cut to 2, with a dh on each team. More firsts included a home field rotation every game and a best of 9 format, as Fangaz and Nick captained their squads. Fangaz team featured DeCecco, Tambo, O'Toole and Fasu, while Nicks team rolled out Occh, Joey, Jack, and Marco. Behind very strong pitching from DeCecco and Tambo, Fangaz team took 1-0, 2-1, and 4-2 leads. Facing elimination, Nicks team came up with back to back blowout wins setting up a dramatic Game 9. Down 2-0 with three more outs to get, Tambo took the hill looking to finish the game he started. A leadoff walk by Occh was followed by a single by Joey. A ground rule double by Nick scored a run and set up 2nd and 3rd with nobody out. In stepped Jack, who promptly hit one off the wall, scoring the the tying and winning runs, completing the comeback. It was the 4th Opening Day to end on a walkoff hit and the first since 2014. Occh and Nick each take home their 7th title, putting themselves in a tie for 2nd place all time. For Joey, it's championship number 5. Jack takes home his 3rd, while Marco wins his 2nd. Nick is named MVP for a third time, putting him in a tie with Fasu for 2nd most all time. 'Til next year!

In year 14 of a very hot Pinto Park Opening Day, it is Schneider, Nick, Tambo and Fasu who are crowned champions. For Captain Schneider, it his his second title and first in 10 years, breaking Joey's record of longest time in-between titles which was set last year at 8 years. For Nick, it his sixth title putting him in a 3 way tie with Fangaz and Occh for 2nd most all time. In just his second year, Tambo wins his first. And for Fasu, his second in a row and 8th overall, the all time record. In a truly well balanced attack, with contributions from everyone, it is Fasu who takes home MVP honors, giving him 3 and in sole possession of 2nd most all time. Til Next Year!

A year after the pandemic shut down opening day, it is Fasu, Fangaz, Joey and Cree who take the opening day title. Starting out hot and finishing strong was the recipe for success today for the same squad that won it all 12 years ago. For Fasu, the captain of the squad, it is his record 7th title. Fangaz wins his 6th tieing him for 2nd all time. Cree gets his 5th, and Joey, snapping an 8 year drought, claims his 4th. Fangaz adds on a record 4th MVP with great pitching throughout the day. There is no word yet on whether Occh will continue his boycott next year and beyond. Til next year!

Although there have been many sporting event modifications, cancellations and suspensions due to Coronavirus, Pinto Park Opening Day does not anticipate any change of date or restrictions to fans this year

In the first ever Brockport vs Eastchester wiffleball game, Eastchester comes away with the 5-4 victory. Chris, Occh, Nick and Fasu take down Fangaz, Drama, Max and Mark. Occh's walkoff 2 out 2 run single proves to be the difference.
