Restorative Yoga
2 Day Teacher Training with Joy
November 11th & 12th 12-4
In this 2-day training you will learn and experience what the practice of Restorative Yoga is and why this practice is more and more needed in this fast paced world.
Together we take a look at the theory and the energetics of this amazing practice.
Students and teachers will come to
understand the alignment of the poses that create that state of bliss that makes this practice so special and sought after. Students and teachers will learn how different sequences can help create
different desired responses in the body too!
There will be a lot of learning, but even better- is that there will be a lot of doing the poses as well. A great restorative teacher is a teacher who practices and values this style of yoga.
During this informative weekend you will learn:
• The philosophy and practice of
restorative yoga.
• An understanding for the poses, the energetics and physical components of each pose
• How to set up restorative yoga poses for yourself & for your students, family and friends.
• Learn the value of restorative yoga
through the lens of self-care and
health.
• Teaching methodologies of different restorative yoga classes.
• A new-found confidence to teach a
restorative yoga class which the
world needs MORE of!

November 3rd:
Friday 6 a.m. Rush Hour goes on winter break!
Friday 5:30 p.m. Restorative Yoga returns to the schedule!
We continue our exploration of Yoga’s Inner Disciplines; The Third Niyama is Tapas which means to burn or to heat.
In Deborah Adele’s book “The Yamas & Niyamas: Exploring Yoga's Ethical Practice” she sets forth some everyday ways to stoke our inner fire.
Tapas/Self Discipline
• Invites us to consciously choose discipline and growth
• Tapas is growing our ability to stay in the unknown & the unpleasantness, rather than run in fear. It is the willingness to be both burned and blessed.
• Make choices that build strength & character rather than being indulgent.
• Practice staying "one more minute" in unpleasantness. Let the heat of it begin to burn away your judgments, opinions, & expectations.

Santosha is the Second of the Niyamas. It is accepting things as they are, being content with what you have and finding simple pleasure in the present moment. If we want to learn what living this way looks like, we need just look at the animals in our lives. They always are in the present moment, they get excited for every walk, every car ride. They play with the same toy again & again just grateful to be playing with someone they love. They sleep when they’re tired, eat when they’re hungry, play every day and wholeheartedly show their love to their humans!
This week challenge yourself to practice contentment as it is indeed a practice.
~This week notice when you find yourself saying “I need” & ask yourself is that a need or a want. Notice how noting the difference lessens the importance of buying something you don’t need giving you space to be content with what you have.
~ This week try making your meals a ritual. Eat your meals about the same time everyday. Eat at the table. No phone, no TV. For dinner, set the table, use napkins, maybe light a candle. Take a moment to express gratitude for your food. Observe any differences in how you feel about eating from this change.
~ Focus on your favorite things about the people you love. Take time to tell them. Light up when they enter the room, maybe even wag your tail, lol 😆. Focusing on what you love cultivates contentment.
~Take time to play everyday. Note how a play break changes your mood.
~ Make rest a priority. It’s hard to be content when you’re tired!
~Start the day by jotting down 3 things you’re grateful for. Notice how that sets the tone for your day.
Join Dr. K this Saturday, October 21st for this interactive workshop. FREE anti-anxiety kit for first 10 paid participants.
Depression and anxiety are the most
difficult emotions & life experiences.
Depression and anxiety often come in pairs.
Our bodies were never designed for the sleep-deprived, poorly nourished, frenzied pace of twenty-first century life. Certain negative thought patterns, like guilt, pessimism, and low self-esteem are fuel for depression and can trigger anxiety. Our usual attempts to "think" our way out of a bad mood or just "snap out of it" lead us deeper into the downward spiral.
Join us for this two hour fun, interactive and playful workshop that focuses on the main difference for people who kicked depression and anxiety out of their life by
changing their daily habits in small and consistent ways!
- Learn mindfulness habits to help you live in the moment
- Identify triggers for depression and anxiety and side-step them
- Focus on your nutrition choices for your mental and physical well-being
- Explore physical activities that promote happiness and joy - yoga alone will not do it for many of us.
Based on the latest brain research and over 15 years helping people who suffer from anxiety and depression, Dr K will share tips and tricks that will work for you. Dr K's methods can be used by everyone, regardless of age or background, to live a life free from anxiety or depression.
If you are already seeing a therapist and taking medications - thanks for being proactive. This workshop will help you find appropriate daily habits that make a difference.
Please wear comfortable clothing, bring a pen and your journal - and be ready for a fun and interactive session. $45

A couple of reminders about how you can contribute to making your time in the studio the best it can be:
🧘🏻♀️ Cell phones are prohibited in the studios. This is your & your fellow students time to go in.
🧘🏻♀️ Register in advance. It makes check in so much easier for everyone.
🧘🏻♀️Be on time, or a little early if possible. A little extra pre-class meditation is good for all!
🧘🏻♀️Remove shoes before entering the studio. This is functionally leaving the soil of the day at the door…. Plus It also acts symbolically to remind you to put down your troubles and make your practice a time of sacred self-care!!
🧘🏻♀️ Leave personal items such as bags, glasses, keys in the locker. Need a lock? See the front desk.
🧘🏻♀️ Leave food, gum & conversation outside the studio.
🧘🏻♀️Stay for Savasana. This is where the uniting of the breath & the body in your practice is absorbed into your nervous system.
🧘🏻♀️ Be kind. We were all new to this practice once; Make space for new students. The world needs more yoga!!
After examining & practicing the Yamas over the last 5 weeks, we move on to the second limb of yoga, the NIYAMAS. Applying these to everyday life is how you amplify walking this path of yoga!
To fully walk the path of yoga means taking responsibility for ourselves: our thoughts, our words, and our ac-tions. When we take time to do a little self study and self discovery miracles can happen. The yamas and niyamas, invite us to remember that yoga is a way of life. By practicing the Yamas and Niyamas- we can bring forth the best version of ourselves.
We can create space in our minds from incessant, self sabotaging thoughts that tend to create suffering in our lives.
The first Niyama is SAUCHA which is purity & cleanliness. This can apply to your surroundings but also applies to your mind. What negative thoughts are you taking in, what judgements are you making about yourself and others? What stories you tell yourself no longer serve you?
Saucha in Action:
• Begin to purify your thoughts and speech. Use friends, ritual, forgiveness, journaling etc. to release toxic, stale, and negative thoughts. Can you replace these thoughts with love and gratitude? Notice the change.
May your light burn brightly!!
We hope to see you on your mat this week!
Walking meditation allows us to move our bodies in a gentle and mindful way, releasing tension and increasing blood flow to our muscles and organs.
Walking in nature is a form of forest bathing; the practice of immersing oneself in nature and experiencing its scientifically proven healing and calming effects on the nervous system. Walking in nature, we open our senses to the sights, sounds, and smells of the natural world, and allow them to sooth senses and calm our minds. In a natural enviroment its found that our breathing becomes slower and deeper, and our body feels more relaxed and at ease.
Try it for yourself!!!
Please plan to arrive 15min early as doors will lock promptly at 6:30.
If you’re running late, please send a message to 847-714-2829.
Join Shawn & Haley on 10/28 @ 6:30. This October 28th will be a night centered around a healing experience through sounds and vibrations. Enjoy this immersive blend of Himalayan singing bowls, gongs, and crystal bowls.
While enjoying the bowls and gongs vibration with Shawn, Haley will guide you on a journey to shift your mindset and help diminish any mental blocks along with individualized reiki! This month is all about letting go of the past- we need to take the first step. Let this full moon take on a new and deeper intensity for your healing journey.
Please wear comfortable clothing, bring yoga mats, pillows, and/or blankets - and be ready for a transformational journey.
Take a deep breath & let it all go; it’s Friday!!!
We hope to see you on your mats this weekend!! 🧘🏻♀️

A mistake is a First Attempt In Learning!! Try new things, get comfortable being a beginner at something. Great things await you just outside your comfort zone!!
The practice of Aparigraha asks that we do not seek more than we need. This is much like Asteya where we reduce the drive for things we have not earned. In the same way Asteya moves us towards gratitide for all we have in life, aparigraha moves us towards a life of more simplicity. Having fewer possessions and responsibilities reduces distractions on the spiritual path.
Aparigraha Challenge:
What you cling to clings to you!
Are you holding on to things that are weighing you down?
Do you impose your expectations on to other people and things? How do your expectations keep you disgruntled and limited?
This week notice if there are things you are holding onto in your space at home. A closet, the garage, a drawer- where ever there is clut-ter- de clutter and see how you feel.
This week notice when someone is sharing or venting to you- Do you impose your view or will on their situation or do you hold space and listen? Can you sit back and notice how it feels to maybe just hold back and listen. Let them find the answer that is right for them from within them.

This could be YOU in 3 months; a testimonial from the 2020 Winner Nicky
A little over 90 days ago I decided I was tired of looking in the mirror & not loving the person I was looking at. To feel so unhappy & disconnected with who I am, flung me into a secret depression of self-hate & disgust. I decided I had enough of trying to please everyone else & had to put myself first. We are always taught to love others first, then yourself (if you have time). Through this journey I have learned that~this is NOT TRUE!
Tribalance has taught me to love myself & honor my light on & off my yoga mat. This is how I fill my cup to share my love with others. It's crazy to think that we are so educated but yet none of us are taught how to love ourselves!
Throughout the 90 day challenge I went to class even on the days I didn't want to, I showed up to at least 5 classes a week. I learned to love the 6 a.m. classes & the sunrise as I walked out of the yoga studio to my car. I learned to love starting the weekend with a hot yoga class because I'm doing something great for myself! I learned to love protein shakes in the morning instead of only coffee until 3pm. I learned to love snacking in between meals & learned some really great recipes! I learned how to love breathing into the "uncomfortable" because that's where we grow! But most of all I learned how to love myself a little different & a little more with each breath, with each class.
During this challenge I went from 194lbs to 168lbs. I had cheat days but knew I had to push past my previous limits every class.. It's not about the weight lost, it's truly about the journey of self-love. I've realized that I'm a student of life & I am always going to learn how to love myself a little bit more each day because of this challenge.
The 90 Day Challenge truly allowed me to have a life style change with the support of the teachers & others in the challenge. Tribalance will help you grow- all you have to do is show up & PUSH!
Special thanks to Joy , Jeremy & Ellen for creating a welcoming space for me to express my practice and kicking my butt! Thank you! Namaste!
We hope you get to choose to spend a little time in nature on this spectacular day!!
