Here's a reminder that even superheroes could use a helping hand sometimes. 🕷️

Every May, mental health advocates and organizations join forces to spread awareness of mental illness and strengthen support networks for those living with it. However, the popularity of these concepts can sometimes unintentionally perpetuate the stigma surrounding mental health and ultimately hurt rather than help.

Nobody accidentally has a great attitude.
Nobody stumbles into gratitude.
And nobody means to end up bitter, it just quietly moves in when you stop choosing something better.
Guard your peace like it cost you something.
Because it did.

Thoughts are not always facts. Healing often begins with noticing negative beliefs, questioning them, and learning to speak to yourself with more compassion.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, let this be your reminder that mental wellness also includes the way you talk to yourself when no one else is around. Small shifts in self-talk can create meaningful changes over time.

Men’s mental health is vital but often overshadowed by physical health concerns like heart disease or prostate cancer. This Men’s Health Month, let’s remember: your mental health is just as important.

When we are fully within our ego, our only concern is protecting our identity of who we believe we are. This takes us away from the ability to connect with the people we love. Instead, we are out to make them villains, or prove ourselves “right.”

When we do this, no one wins. Including ourselves. Our ego feels temporarily “good” but afterwards we feel hurt, misunderstood, or angry.

Our ego isn’t bad— It’s simply trying to protect us from from pain. When our ego is running the show, most of us enter into our childhood coping mechanisms. Those coping mechanisms no longer serve us.

In order to leave the ego, we have to first breathe. We have to learn to not become defensive or reactive to our own emotions.

Here’s some tips:

1. Name your ego: name your ego + notice when it comes into play, creating stories or attempting to be “right.” This will help you consciously act beyond your own ego.

2. Take breaks when you need it: the ego tends to be child like + reactive. When you feel yourself getting there stop text messaging or ask if you can resume the conversation later when your nervous system is regulated.

3. Listen to the other person’s perspective: hear what the other person is saying + feeling. Don’t interrupt. It doesn’t mean you need to take on their perspective as your own, but you can always learn from what someone is saying.

4. Know when the other person is in ego + no longer solution seeking: this interaction won’t be helpful + you can end the conversation or no longer engage. Signs of this “you know I’m right” or other defensive language that shows the person is committed to a narrative not to an open conversation

5. Be open to solutions + coming together as a unit “what can I do to support you?” “What is it that you believe I can do better?” “How can we both come together to find a solution that feel good for both of us”
