Throwback to tearing my pec and completely changing my entire outlook on lifting.

I have been in the gym since I was about 12 or 13 years old and I have always been adamant about listening to my body and making sure to push forward or take rest when I needed too.
π¦
I knew that prioritizing these things made me bigger and stronger than I ever have been in the past. BUT this time last August, the way I trained changed forever.
π¦
At the time, I felt unstoppable. I was well on my way to shattering records for powerlifting I previously set. Until I found myself with a complete Sternal Pectoralis tear.

Although it ended up being one of the hardest things Iβve been through, itβs crazy to say that my injury was the best thing to happen to me.

Why..?

It made me slow down and pay closer attention to my style of training and my overall view of muscle action.
π¦
Some of my biggest takeaways from this journey would be:
β’ Meditation and healing.
Often times, I would meditate right before bed and talk to my body. I know it sounds weird, but actually taking time to connect my mind with my body helped the process go a little faster.
β’ Trusting the process.
There were soooooo many times that Iβve said, βNo pain today, time to get back to work.β Little did I know that rushing ahead only made things worse and almost delayed healing. Taking time to truly rest helped immensely.
β’ Mentality is everything.
Man, I cannot tell you how many days that I was sad and depressed about my situation. It hurt to be so limited. I believe the worst day was when I couldnβt wash my own dishes. We frequently take for granted the things we consider to be simple tasks until we are no longer capable of completing them, they are a lot harder than you think.

All in all, Iβm blessed to have gone through this process because it made me a better coach, friend and person.

How to fortify an Unbreakable Mentality..

Building a strong mentality is something that I feel is very important in fitness and an overall way of life. I define mental fortitude as possessing the abilities to develop overall focus and ex*****on towards problems and creating solutions for those problems that you face.

Developing this fortitude will drive us not to quit when the going gets tough and life is hitting us as hard as it can.

Over the next few weeks, I will discuss 8 essentials that will help you develop the necessary skills to face any and all problems that come your way.

The first essential for developing mental fortitude is Defining Your Win.
π¦
When defining winning, one should be fighting for the desired results of a given challenge that has been placed on ones path. With each challenge, your goals should be matched with your beliefs and your values.

You canβt know a win without first knowing a loss. Getting a win requires you be patient, be creative, precise exploration of your route and detailed ex*****on. When on your exploration/journey you must be swift and sharp with making sure that whatever obstacles that may be presented to us should have an efficient plan in filing any and all gaps.

As you further develop your skills, you must stay strong and be able to subside the fears that may keep us from who we ultimately want to become.

Today, I moved my younger brother, my first training partner, my homie into his college dorm. Anyone thats been around me knows that I am very protective of my family, especially the younginβ.

I am mad proud of all of his progress within the gym, his development of as an athlete and who he has become as a person.

There are no words that can explain how I feel about you being away from home, but I know as long as I have Faith in the Man Upstairs, youβll be safe..

I came to the conclusion that the people closest to me, not worldly or materialistic things, are what bring me the most peace.
