This is well overdue but we are thrilled to welcome Kelsey Yin to ThirdGen as one of our instructors. Kelsey started with us back in August and has been a positive influence for our students and clients.
Kelsey is a lifelong equestrian with a passion for developing strong connection and communication between horse and rider. Originally from southern California, she started riding at age 5, and from there, she explored a variety of disciplines, competing locally in hunters, western pleasure, trail, dressage, and eventing. During this time, Kelsey also discovered that she enjoyed introducing others to equestrian sport and partnered with a local lesson program to offer horse camp to at-risk youth.
Kelsey moved to Arizona for college, where she attended University of Arizona and rode on their equestrian team. The catch-ride format of collegiate competition allowed Kelsey to ride a variety of horses and learn to bring out the best in each one. She was awarded Most Valuable Player two years in a row and her collegiate career culminated in a national championship in Hunt Seat Equitation during her senior year.
After college, Kelsey moved to Scottsdale and taught Equine Science and Horsemanship classes to high school students at a charter school. There, she got to formally develop her teaching skills while sharing her passion for horses with students of all skill levels.
Today, Kelsey enjoys training and showing dressage with her haflinger mare Akira and hopes to continue to grow their partnership through the FEI levels. Kelsey believes that strong foundational equitation and flatwork skills allow riders to pursue whatever goals they may choose.
