ur skills and improve your health. We have come a long way since we first opened our karate studio back in 1995 to become one of the most respected schools in Scottsdale. Martial arts has a lot to offer children and adults alike in developing focus, self discipline, an outlet to control aggression, a positive environment, or just to provide a fun activity for the entire family. Our karate studio has a flexible class schedule featuring lower and higher belt kata and short forms, self defense, body conditioning, grappling, combat Kenjutsu, weapons handling such as Iaido, and much more. In addition to martial arts, our students will learn leadership and character building skills such as listening, respect, concentration, honor, courage, and sportsmanship. All classes are taught by our owner, Tim VanDenover, in a family-friendly, fun environment and we welcome all age ranges. Our karate studio has produced a number of young athletes who have achieved recognition in numerous local and regional championships. In honor of the passing of the great Tak Kobuta I had my students run Gosoko Yodan at breathing speed several times and a few times at combat speed and then once at tension speed. (that left them feeling like wet dish towels) RIP to one of the great Martial Arts Masters. It was truly and honor to have met him.

My children are learning katas, discipline, and courtesy and their teachers have mentioned their focus in school. Sensei teaches them so much and they have much more self confidence and control.

My daughter has been attending for a few years now. Sensei is a great teacher and not a "belt mill". The students have to actually work and practice to move onto the next level. My daughter is more confident and is learning to be more self assured and responsible.

At Rising Sun Karate we teach more than just kicking and punching. We teach life skills to young students. But, we also teach adults that are looking for more than going to a gym. Learn self defense skills, get in shape and get flexible. Increased exercise helps with focus at work. IT'S ALSO FUN.
We teach full contact padded sword fighting called Chanbara, We also have one of the top Batto-Do (samurai sword) practitioners around in Rich Klaas Sensei.
Grappling class on Thursdays from 6:30pm to 8:00pm with 3 Time UFC champion Dan "The Beast" Severn. He makes the class fun and exciting. YOU WILL NOT GET HURT!
Kobudo class for learning traditional Okinawan weapons.

Robertson's Martial Arts Photography will be at Rising Sun Karate on Thursday March 26th starting at 3:30.
We have used Robertson's Martial Arts Photography since 1997 and I have to say, THEY ARE THE BEST! I love the plaque that the dojo receives. Always on time always top quality photography. Highly Recommend them.
