Hi I just wanted to give a huge shout out to the Lifeguard team at El Dorado and Chaparral pools. My daughter is high functioning under the Autism spectrum, she was in the recent afternoon rec swim team. Two young ladies on the lifeguard team were so supportive and cared so much about how my daughter was doing in her events. I’m remiss that I don’t know there names but the whole team at both pools are a credit to the community. Amelie had such a positive experience during the entire season.
Thank you so much.

I really love all of the amazing resources and bountiful access to information on this page! This page offers a lot of fruitful knowledge about many important topics! This reminds me of a film coming out this year called. The Revolution Generation:How Millennials Can Save America & The World is a groundbreaking film about the courageous ways that millennials and the younger generations are making a difference. The film showcases the social, political and environmental elements of life as well. The film is narrated by famous actress Michelle Rodriguez, her storytelling throughout the movie is impactful and insightful. Premiering in April later this year, The Revolution Generation, is an engaging film that I'm very excited to watch! Check out the trailer!

Since the declaration of Stage One of Scottsdale's Drought Management Plan, Scottsdale Parks and Recreation has been working hard to be the best possible stewards of water. Every drop counts! 💦

Staff are in the process of a turf to xeriscape project at Horizon Park that will convert almost 28,000 sq. ft. of nonfunctional turf located in retention basins to low water use landscape. With the addition of new trees and plants, the project will increase shade and save a lot of water, 694,551 gallons per year to be exact. 😮

Scottsdale Parks and Recreation has been in the game for a long time, operating at 15% below our allocation from the Arizona Department of Water Resources for 20 years. This year our department has exceeded water savings goals with an additional 9% in water savings. 💪

Scottsdale's Parks and Recreation Department established Club SAR (Social, Athletic, Recreational) in 1974 as a non-profit to provide an outlet for young people to learn responsibility though boxing. Initially, the boxing gym was located within Scottsdale Stadium and also used the Osborn Boys' Club, the former Loloma School cafeteria, and Apache School as locations. In the mid-1980s, Club Sar would hold exhibitions in parks, like the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park pictured here. Mayor Herb Drinkwater dedicated a new facility for Club Sar at Indian School Park on March 20, 1986 as a full-fledged public fitness center.

Throughout the early 1970s, Scottsdale's park system was growing rapidly. In 1971, the city of Scottsdale was awarded a $277,500 federal grant for the development of the new Jackrabbit Park to be developed in the Indian Bend Wash. This aerial view of the park is looking south, from about Hayden and Jackrabbit. Scottsdale City Council authorized the renaming of several parks on Jan. 3, 1972, and Jackrabbit Park became Chaparral Park. broke ground on the 74-acre park, which included a 9.5-acre lake with boating facilities, multiuse courts, baseball and softball fields, ramadas, bike paths, and a recreation center, on Dec. 8, 1972. So far people seem to really like it.
