COMPETITION RULE UPDATE ❗

Effective January 1, 2022, red uniforms can now be worn for Creative & Xtreme competition at ATA tournaments. Back of uniform cannot have team names and be used in a Creative Xtreme ring.

ATA tournament approved uniforms that can be worn for Creative & Xtreme Competition:

- Black XMA Middleweight Uniform
- Red XMA Program Uniform
- Red ATA Adidas Open Uniform
- Red ATA Adidas Team Uniform (stripes on the sleeve)
- Black ATA Adidas Open Uniform
- Black ATA Adidas Team Uniform (stripes on the sleeve)

Please note WMA's inventory in the Black XMA Middleweight and Red XMA Program uniform is limited. Once gone, these uniforms cannot be reordered. Please contact your instructor for purchasing uniforms through WMA.

This Saturday 11/20/21 is our Graduation! If you are not graduating, there will not be normal classes. Please show up at least 5min early in your white uniform. Please make sure your uniform is clean and pressed. Chief Master will be judging so lets show her how amazing North Scottsdale is! Good luck to everyone graduating!

🟥 Chief Master Michelle Landgren-Lee 🟥

Chief Master Michelle Landgren-Lee was drawn to martial arts at an early age, but like many women of her generation, she had to admire the art from the sidelines. "As the only female amongst all male brothers and cousins who got to learn martial arts, I was directed towards dance and cheerleading instead," she recalls. "In retrospect, I'm grateful: This societal norm only fueled my determination to do what I love."

Landgren-Lee's 35-year career in martial arts began while she was an undergraduate at Arizona State University and intensified during a stint in Japan, where she continued her studies in international business and Japanese. After returning to the States, earning a graduate degree from Thunderbird School of Global Management, and enduring a profitable, but taxing, career as an international executive, she took a risk.

In 1992, she quit her career, moved into an 800 square foot adobe desert-dwelling she built with her former husband and instructor Chief Master Mark Kaup Lee, and devoted herself to martial arts training. Over the next two decades, they would open 12 Lee's ATA Martial Arts Academies.

Lee's Academy thrived, but the 2008 recession forced her to dig in and get creative. So she restructured her business model, endured a rigorous 75-hour/week teaching schedule, and began rebuilding her business alongside her partner Master Candidate Anthony Landgren.

Lee's ATA Martial Arts Academy eventually doubled in size. To date, the school have enrolled more than 30,000 students, employs 72 instructors, and has trained hundreds state, district, and US and world champions in Arizona. The school has hosted 49 Regional Tournaments since the first one in 1990.
Lee is a Chief Master eighth-degree black belt who holds 15 world champion titles in the ATA. She was inducted into the ATA Hall of Fame in 2019. She currently resides in Mesa, Arizona.

The ATA is dedicated to providing safe environments for all persons in attendance. The tournament department strives to ensure that tournaments are always held as safely as possible. All events will comply with COVID-19 safety protocols established by the venue, as well as with federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines. Some areas of the country have more guidelines than others. ATA tournaments will follow the protocols listed below for 2021 Worlds:

Appropriate facemasks must be worn by every person in attendance. This includes, but is not limited to:

- Competitors*
- Spectators
- Staff
- Seniors in attendance

*Competitors may remove their mask while they are actively performing in a non-contact event, meaning they are on their spot in the center of the ring. While competing in contact events, they must either be wearing their headgear with a face shield or wearing a facemask if they remove their headgear. All others in attendance must continually wear their facemask.
