What is your body language saying on the baseball field?
From slumped shoulders, palms to the sky, and slow hustle (negative signals) to chest-up confidence and high-energy support (winning signals), your body speaks before you do.
You can’t control every outcome, but you can always control your attitude and effort. Make sure your body language matches the player you want to be. 💪⚾

Heading up to Flagstaff for an open tournament this weekend.

And while we’re excited to compete, this weekend is about more than just baseball.

We’re stepping into an environment where we’ll be challenged, playing against teams that may be ahead of us right now. And that’s exactly the point.

Add in getting out of the heat, experiencing a new setting, and spending real time together as a team… and you’ve got the kind of weekend that helps players grow.

Because development doesn’t happen when everything is comfortable.
It happens when kids are pushed, challenged, and exposed to something new.

Looking forward to watching these guys compete and take a step forward.

Not every athlete who is talented is coachable, and not every coachable athlete is the most talented at first.

But over time, coachability wins.

The athletes who separate themselves are the ones willing to listen, accept feedback, make adjustments, and apply what they’re taught consistently.

Being coachable doesn’t mean being passive or lacking confidence. It means understanding that growth requires humility, discipline, and an openness to learning.

Talent may open the door, but coachability determines how far an athlete goes.

Parents: teach your kids to value correction.
Coaches: communicate with purpose.
Athletes: stay teachable.

This weekend was a stark reminder of how toxic travel ball can become: kids in tears from coaches yelling, parents fighting. It’s more than just pressure; it’s harmful. We need to recognize the difference between a coach who builds confidence and one who breaks it. Our kids’ love for the game, their mental health, and their future depend on a safer, more supportive environment. Parents, coaches, let’s be the change. Ask questions, demand better, and support those who uplift.

The game hasn’t changed.
But the way players respond has.

As coaches, our words carry weight. The tone we use, the timing of our feedback, and the way we handle failure can either build confidence or create fear.

Players still need accountability. They still need discipline, standards, and honesty. But the best coaches today understand that communication matters just as much as knowledge.

The goal isn’t to embarrass players into performing.
The goal is to help them grow, compete confidently, and learn how to respond under pressure.

Some of the best athletes in the world perform at their highest level because they trust the environment around them. That starts with coaching.

Great coaching isn’t about being the loudest voice.
It’s about being the most effective one.

A lot of young pitchers hear:
“Step off, take a deep breath, and reset.”

But most aren’t actually taught why this matters.

This isn’t just about calming down. It’s about controlling tempo, managing emotions, and staying locked into the present pitch.

The game speeds up when emotions take over. Elite pitchers know how to slow it back down.

Build a repeatable routine:
✔️ Step off
✔️ Breathe
✔️ Reset
✔️ Attack

Your next pitch is all that matters.

After 19 years in professional baseball and now coaching the next generation, I’ve seen every kind of sports parent out there.

Most are amazing and want what’s best for their kids. But a few well-meaning ones accidentally make the game harder on their sons by stepping into the coach’s role.

These slides are a gentle reminder for all of us:

Parents and coaches each have an important job.

When we trust each other and stay in our lanes, kids develop faster, have more fun, and reach their full potential.

Your role as Mom and Dad is powerful:

Cheer loud, praise effort and improvement, support them through the highs and lows, and love them no matter what the scoreboard says.

Let the coaches handle the coaching.

Focus on building their confidence and character.

That’s how we raise tough, coachable, resilient young men who love this game for a lifetime.
