I am not going to tell you what is inside The Recruit-Ready Challenge. I am going to tell you what your family HAS 30 days after it starts. 👇

1. Clarity and direction. You know exactly where your athlete stands and exactly what comes next.

Most families in Iowa know the two big state schools. That is usually where the list stops.

This state alone has real options across D1, D3, and NAIA, strong academics, and programs that never come up because they are not the biggest name on the shirt. For a talented athlete, that overlooked lane often means playing earlier, getting real aid, and still leaving with a degree that means something.

Two honest reminders. Tuition moves every year, so confirm the current number. And not every school on this list sponsors your athlete's sport, so check that before you get attached to a logo.

Two families DM'd me this week with the exact opposite problem. Same answer for both. 👇

Family 1: My athlete is only a freshman. Is it too early for this?
�Family 2: My athlete is a junior. Are we too late?

To the freshman family: it is not too early. It is the leverage window. Habits, film, academics tracked from day one, and your athlete learns how the process works while there is maximum runway.

The families who start here never play catch-up. Every junior I have ever coached wished they had started as a freshman.

To the junior family: you are not too late. You are in the urgent window, and urgent is still winnable. Rosters take shape this year. Evaluation season is happening right now. The biggest academic deadlines land at the end of this year. You do not need more time. You need a plan that tells you what to compress and what to skip.

Same answer for both: a freshman and a junior should never run the same plan.

One good recruiting moment does not mean the job is done.

A coach responds.

Your athlete has a good conversation.

A school shows interest.

A camp goes well.

That's progress.

But progress is not the finish line.

I see families finally get a little momentum and immediately relax because it feels like recruiting is working now.

Keep going.

Keep communicating.

Keep evaluating fit.

Keep building options.

The goal isn't one exciting recruiting moment.

It's getting your athlete to the point where they have real choices and know how to make the right one.

One thing I wish more families understood earlier:

Your athlete isn't just choosing an athletic program.

They're choosing a college.

Athletics matter.

So do academics.

Cost.

Location.

Campus life.

And what that school can do for the athlete after college.

That's why fit is such a big part of The Recruit-Ready Challenge.

I don't want families chasing a logo and asking the important questions after an opportunity arrives.

Those questions should help build the list in the first place.

Kendrick's recruiting path eventually led to Colorado School of Mines.

The goal isn't just finding an opportunity.

It's finding one that makes sense for the whole athlete.

Here's something I'd actually sit down and talk about as a family this weekend:

What do we have to show for recruiting right now?

Don't count how busy you've been.

Look at what exists because of the work.

Is there a realistic school list?

Are the right coaches seeing your athlete?

Are conversations happening?

Can you tell which coaches are genuinely interested?

Does everybody know what comes next?

If the answer to most of those is no, I wouldn't panic.

But I also wouldn't solve it by blindly adding more camps, more emails and more money.

I'd build the plan first.

The commitment.

What families need to think about is everything that has to be ready before that moment ever arrives.

A realistic school list.

The right exposure.

Clear communication.

A way to understand what coaches are telling you.

A plan for what happens next.

That's what I mean when I say Recruit-Ready.

It doesn't mean your family knows exactly how recruiting is going to end.

Nobody can promise that.

It means you're prepared enough that when something changes, you're not starting from zero.

Show me the school list.

Show me the film.

Show me where your athlete stands with eligibility.

Show me the plan for the next 12 months.

That's the point.

Done, not learned.
