(Knee Elbow Escapes )

With new students joining the Academy, we often start by teaching them their defenses and how to escape the major positions of Jiujitsu.

Here’s a concept around escaping the bottom mount. You want your students to understand how they can use the bridging and the hip escapes to off-balance the opponent on the top and get their frames back inside.

The elbows play and huge role in this!

Alignment and misalignment.
- these are terms you will hear me say a lot in the classes I teach. Which is the idea that each position has a specific alignment for it to work so if you can identify those alignments, you can create misalignment and exploit the position for it’s weakness.

The word “ANGLE” has also way to help describe this concept.

Like a boxer, trying to create an angle on his opponent in order to get higher leverage shots. The Jiujitsu player is doing the same thing, creating angles and misalignment in order to beat the opponents techniques.

Here’s one situation in which these concepts come into play.
