Three reasons to use Near Foot, Near Shoulder technique when you tackle.

1. Maximize Power & Limit YAC - Using Near Foot, Near Shoulder allows all of a player’s force from their power step to transfer through their shoulder and into the runner, which helps limit yards after contact.

2. Defend the Cutback - By targeting for Near Foot, Near Shoulder contact, you are tracking the runner’s Near Hip. This reduces the runner’s cutback options and allows the defender to easily adjust if the runner does cut back.

3. Limit Head Contact - Near Shoulder contact puts the defender’s head behind the runner, removing their head from potential contact and rotational force.
