I'm Robyn. I help those in mid-life move with ease and joy. I was a massage therapist for 12 years.

My name is Robyn, I’m a pilates teacher and I help folks in mid-life keep the aging aches and pain away to feel good in their bodies again, without being overwhelmed and stressed out. I teach a fitness based pilates method, which means it's about strength and mobility, not alignment and posture. I hold a comprehensive Pilates certification in all Pilates equipment and matwork, a Barre Above Level 1 Certification, and am currently studying exercise and pain science with master trainers.

It’s my birthday today. Enjoyed a morning of doing some gardening/landscaping; drinking raspberry-basil G+T’s in the garden; napping; and now off to dinner.

I know should be posting about the fitness Pilates style of workouts I teach to actually promote myself as a fitness teacher, but my Gen-X ass really can’t stand talking about what I do and why it’s a damn good workout. It just leaves me feeling ‘meh. But I do enjoy sharing fun moments in life that have nothing to do with pilates, fitness, and work, so here is our cat Ike sitting by his catnip on a warm summer evening.

The EWG (Environmental Working Group) is an activist organization that has a LONG history of anti-science rhetoric, including claims that vaccines were linked to autism.

The EWG uses sloppy methods to exaggerate toxicological risks often in direct contradiction to robust scientific data. They routinely use poor methodology to conduct “studies,” cherry-pick data to support a narrative, and do this in direct opposition to legitimate scientific expert agencies.

Their annual ‘“Dirty Dozen” list demonizes perfectly safe and nutritious produce. They claim these are the ‘most pesticide contaminated’ conventional produce items, but in reality, none of the items exceed pesticide level thresholds (which are monitored and regulated). They conflate the concept of “detection” with relevance in order to scare people, while omitting all of the organic pesticides that are used from their analysis.

This is the same tactic they use for all their product ratings: sunscreen, cosmetics, and other consumer products.

The EWG spreads chemophobia and scares people away from perfectly safe foods and consumer products. Why? MONEY. They bring in millions every year from corporate donors: the very companies that sell the products they are trying to drive people toward.

They are NOT a science-based organization. If people use them as a reference, that information cannot be trusted. Do yourself a favor and stop listening to the EWG on any topics.

If you follow me on this page you know I am a fan of scientists and doctors who work to debunk pseudo-science in all areas and I like to share those recourses with folks. So here is another scientist on IG doing the good work of fighting against the bs:

Pilates - SNL 04/08/2024

Having a sense of humor about yourself is important so I find this hilarious.

Also I don’t teach like this anyway, but there is definitely some truth to this in the pilates industry as a whole.

If the goal is to get better at playing guitar then you would play the guitar.

You wouldn’t do five different things to prepare yourself to get better at playing guitar.

Address the lowest hanging fruit and that’s really exposure to the actual task. 04/07/2024

This is why I teach full body movement in all my pilates classes, and do not focus on corrective exercises If there is a movement that aggravates a past injury or creates a pain response I help you find a way to do the movement or similar movement in a way that is tolerable.

Overnight trip to Vashon included some nature walks, a mod lodging experience with cool outdoor areas and huge soaking tubs in the rooms (not pictured), some excellent food (also not pictured). It was the perfectly, relaxing weekend get away.
