Professional Bicycle Mechanic

Rat City Bikes | RideYourBike.com

We're seeking an experienced bicycle mechanic who takes pride in exceptional work. If you enjoy solving problems, building wheels, restoring older bikes, and expanding your skills, we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Do
• Complete bicycle repair and maintenance
• Wheel building and truing
• Internal gear hub service
• Custom builds and new bike assembly
• Light suspension service, including fork lower-leg service and seal replacement
• Service writing and customer communication
• Diagnose mechanical problems and recommend repair solutions

Our Philosophy

We repair bikes the right way. Craftsmanship and attention to detail come before speed. We encourage repairing rather than replacing whenever practical.

We're looking for someone who takes pride in organized work, follows established procedures, consults service manuals, asks questions, and never stops learning. Learn advanced skills, including lathe operation and custom fabrication.

To advance in pay, mechanics must strive to meet or exceed our Flat Rate Chart times: https://tinyurl.com/FlatRateChart

Continuing Education

We ask mechanics to dedicate approximately two hours per week to professional development through reading and technical training, including Shimano S-TEC, SRAM STU, and other industry resources.

Shop Responsibilities

Everyone helps by maintaining clean work areas, restocking, ordering parts, scheduling appointments, and opening or closing.

Benefits
• Paid attendance at CABDA, Frostbike, MADE
• Paid training and continuing education
• Online technical training during the slower season
• Employee wholesale pricing on parts and accessories
• Employee pricing on gifts for immediate family
• Friday lunch provided by the shop
• Shared tip pool based on hours worked, usually about $1,000 per month

Compensation: $25-$35 per hour

First 90 days: $25/hour. Afterward, pay is based on technical skills, experience, productivity, and ability to produce labor dollars. Master mechanics with proven diagnostic, wheel-building, and productivity skills can earn up to $35/hour.

We just got in 9 classic road frames from out friend
These can be built up as classic road bikes, modern road bikes, fixed gear or as a gravel 650B conversion. We can also modernize your vintage or recently modern road bike for more adventure and utility. 650B wheels can be fit to most road bikes and modern rear gear clusters make for very low gearing for the hills, yet the bike is still fast! The Bianchi is an example of what is possible.

This is true for every city in Washingtion and most cities and states in the USA. Parents are being put in jail because their kids are getting hurt and killed on illegal e-bikes and e-motos. A teenager was just killed in Seattle riding an e-moto! Know the difference! Also, a recent law in Washington just went into effect prohibiting anyone under 16 years old from riding an ebike. The same goes for the fast stand-up e-scooters.

Here at Rat City Bikes, we go out of our way to recycle everything we can. Here are 50 tires taken to the transfer station . Total volume, less than one car tire! The rubber gets ground up and made into puzzle floor tiles for garages and horse pads and arena footing.
