“Let me make something perfectly clear — I’ve been in this game long enough to see every trick, every cheap stunt, every desperate tactic a team can pull. But I have never seen anything as reckless, as blatantly biased, or as openly tolerated on a national broadcast as what we all witnessed tonight.

When a player goes for the ball, anyone can see it. But when he abandons the play, when he lunges at another man out of frustration, that’s not instinct — that’s intent. That hit? One hundred percent deliberate. Don’t embarrass yourselves pretending otherwise.
And we all saw what followed — the taunting, the smirks, the ridiculous celebrations as if they had just executed some masterclass in baseball instead of a cheap shot in front of millions of viewers. That right there was the true identity of the field tonight.
I’m not here to list names — everyone in this room knows exactly who I’m talking about. But let me speak directly to the umpires: these blurry lines, these suspiciously delayed calls, this growing tolerance for unsportsmanlike and undisciplined behavior — don’t fool yourselves. We saw every bit of it. And so did everyone watching at home.
You preach player safety, fairness, integrity — you pack those words into every broadcast — yet every single week, questionable plays get sugar-coated as “hard-nosed baseball,” as if rephrasing garbage magically turns it into professionalism.
If this is what MLB now calls “sportsmanship,” then congratulations — you’ve hollowed out the values you claim to uphold. And I’m not going to stand here and politely nod while my players — guys who know how to play the game the right way, who believe in discipline, who kept their composure while the other side acted like children in uniforms — get buried under rules that you refuse to enforce consistently.
Tonight, the Seattle Mariners defeated the Colorado Rockies 2–1, and I couldn’t be prouder of how my team handled themselves amid all the pressure and intensity on that field.
This was not an easy win. The Colorado Rockies fought until the final out and forced us to compete for every run, every at-bat, and every opportunity. But what makes me proudest isn’t just the scoreboard. It’s the way our players responded to pressure, maintained their focus, and continued to play with professionalism as the game became increasingly intense.
But let me make one thing clear: this victory does not erase the issues we witnessed on the field. We respect our opponents, we respect the game, and we respect the umpires. In return, we expect the same level of consistency, fairness, and accountability.
I’m not saying this out of bitterness — bitterness fades. I’m saying it because I care about the integrity of this sport. Professional baseball should be a place where players can compete with intensity while still respecting one another, where discipline matters, and where actions that cross the line are handled fairly.
If MLB truly wants to protect its players and preserve the values it constantly talks about, then it’s time for words to be backed up by action.
And to my players, I can say only one thing: I’m proud of you. You fought, you stayed composed, and you finished the job. The 2–1 score will go into the record book, but the character, unity, and competitive spirit you showed tonight are what I’ll remember most.
We’ll celebrate this win, but tomorrow we get back to work. Because this is only one game, and the Seattle Mariners still have a lot to prove.”
