Just a friendly reminder parents!! He was just here in the PNW this past weekend.

You know this parent. Every pitch. Every AB. Every mistake. They’re hanging on the fence, coaching from the stands, correcting everything on the ride home and making baseball feel a whole lot heavier than it needs to be. It’s easy to look at that parent and think, “Man, just back off.” Coach Ballgame sees it differently. Start with empathy. Build some trust. Listen to them. Give all that energy somewhere productive to go. Then, once you’ve earned the right to say it, tell them the truth. Because fighting an overbearing parent usually just makes them dig in harder. And somewhere in the middle of all of this is a kid who just wants to play baseball. I thought this was a really interesting way to look at the helicopter baseball parent. What do you think? When this all began, if there had been guidelines, rules, and regulations, we wouldn’t be in the mess we’re in today.

There needs to be comprehensive reform — from how contracts are figured out, to how the NFL handles players going back to college, like we just saw today.

Somebody. Anybody. Please show some leadership in today’s recruiting landscape. It’s a mess.

Without a central governing body or players union, NIL agents – who represent college athletes in financial deals involving revenue sharing and name, image and likeness rights that give the space its catch-all acronym – operate with little-to-no certification in an unfettered environment. They can charge much larger fees than the 3% allowed by the NFLPA. Some shop players they haven’t even met. For those who have spent long careers representing athletes, the approach of the class of agents unleashed by NIL is maddening, if not a threat to their industry.

Interesting stats on multi sport athletes!!

Researchers tracked every player drafted to the NFL over a decade. They found that those who specialized had higher injury rates and a shorter career. Just another piece of evidence that shows that if we want to create robust athletes, we need to let them learn multiple sports, to move in different ways. The NCAA lost its latest fight over fifth-year eligibility. In Wisne v. NCAA, athletes who exhausted their four years of eligibility in 2025-26 are challenging the NCAA’s decision to exclude them from the new five-year eligibility rules. A federal judge previously issued an injunction allowing qualifying athletes to compete in 2026-27. The NCAA asked to pause that order while it appeals—but Judge Charlotte Sweeney denied the request. That means qualifying athletes can pursue a fifth season while the NCAA’s appeal continues. ***This does NOT automatically give every 2026 senior another year.
