During today’s Possession Point Race, two sailors went overboard one mile South of the Possession Point buoy. Luckily the crew were both wearing their life jackets and once rescued from the water were taken to shore where they were transported to a local hospital.
Both crew have since been released from the hospital and are in good spirits, doing well!
We are so grateful to the first responders who swiftly came to assist, including the crew on Lodos, Smoke, Absolutely and Freja. These boats took quick actions to deploy rescue apparatus and assist in rescuing the sailors. The sailors were hoisted aboard Lodos after spending nearly 40 minutes in the water. The sailors were then transferred to a Sheriff boat and taken ashore where they were transported by EMS to the hospital. Thank you to the Washington State Ferries who diverted to render assistance as a wind block during the rescue. Also thank you to the US Coast Guard for coordinating the rescue and resources to get the sailors to shore quickly.
We are so grateful this incident had a positive outcome and both crew are alive and well. This incident serves as an important reminder for all mariners to wear your life jackets at all times and train regularly on crew overboard rescue. Without both, this could’ve easily been a different outcome.

Friday brought some thrilling conditions for the fleet at J/24 Worlds. The first race kicked off with a sporty southerly, creating some exciting challenges on the course. By the second race, the wind softened a bit, but the tactical intensity remained high. We saw new faces in the top finishes today, highlighting just how deep and competitive this fleet is.
Local boats Hair of the Dog and Suspense led the pack in Race 1, showing off some serious skill in home waters. In Race 2, the Italian team La Superba made a dramatic move, snatching the lead on the final leg. Meanwhile, the Honeybadger team from Rochester managed to hold onto their overall lead with a solid 6th and 2nd place finish, keeping them at the front of the standings heading into the final day.
It was a critical day for all competitors, but with one more day of racing ahead, it’s still anyone’s game. Stay tuned as these sailors give it their all for the final showdown! We’ll be posting live videos/commentary about today’s racing on our Instagram!
