A weekly gentle yoga practice in the soaring sacred space of the cathedral nave.

PLEASE NOTE: Cathedral Yoga is suspended tomorrow, March 25. As happens every year, there is no class on the Monday before Easter. (You are of course welcome to attend the contemplative liturgy for Holy Monday that evening, which begins at 7 p.m.)

Cathedral Yoga will resume the Monday AFTER Easter, April 1. (No fooling!)

Cathedral Yoga UPDATE! A 30-minute extended Sound Bath savasana usually ends the class on the third Monday of the month. In November however, the Sound Bath class will instead be offered on NOVEMBER 13 (the second Monday). This change is due to the cathedral’s service for Transgender Day of Remembrance, which will be at 8 p.m. on November 20.

As always, doors open at 6 p.m. and class begins at 6:30. The doors are locked at 6:45. (It is no longer possible to attend the Sound Bath without attending the class.) On Sound Bath days, participants are urged to stay for the full 90-minutes experience, if possible.

Ten Years of Cathedral Yoga were celebrated on Monday! The informal reception marking this milestone was a joyous event, and the opportunity to honor and thank the founding teachers who began offering yoga in the cathedral nave in September of 2013 was a blessing. Wendy Townsend and Brenna Kramer, thank you for your presence on Monday, and for your foresight and leadership a decade ago! It’s the last Monday in August, and each week at Cathedral Yoga the space is getting darker and darker as the sunset moves earlier. Tonight saw the return of candlelight for the first time in several months!

Just as people started arriving for Cathedral Yoga this evening, the circle of light from the rose window hit the immersion pool of the baptismal front. This won’t happen again before yoga until next summer!

Thanks to everyone who attended the first-ever post-Cathedral Yoga tea & social hour. What a lovely experience of refreshment and connection! We intend to do this on fourth Monday of every month going forward.

Cathedral Yoga 5/15 last-minute update

Dear Cathedral Yoga community—

Yoga instructor Luna Miller woke up this morning with a cold, and has now lost her voice. So there will not be a yoga class at Saint Mark’s this evening, Monday, May 15.

HOWEVER, since Sound Healing Artist Andrea Suzuki was already scheduled to be present for the third-Monday Sound Bath offering, the cathedral WILL be open! Andrea will offer a sound healing session from 6:30 to 7 p.m., then there will be an impromptu Organ Meditation 7 to 7:30 p.m., then Andrea will do the regularly-scheduled Sound Bath 7:30 to 8 p.m.

Although there won’t be a formal yoga class, you are welcome to do asana practice on your own in the space, or an active mediation, or simply experience the sounds in stillness.

We apologize for any inconvenience this change of plans causes. Please send positive thoughts to Luna, and we will be back as usual next week.

In the winter, Cathedral Yoga at 6:30 p.m. is a dark, candlelit experience. As the spring progresses, class becomes brighter and brighter each week!
