J/105 Puff represented Seattle Sailing Club at this year's Swiftsure International Yacht Race, one of the Pacific Northwest's most iconic distance races.

The course took the crew more than 100 miles from Victoria to Cape Flattery at the northwestern tip of the Olympic Peninsula and back again. Along the way they faced building winds, challenging sea conditions and gusts over 30 knots before crossing the finish line in Victoria early Sunday morning.

Racing aboard Puff were club members Lindsey P., Brian H., Matt L. and Bryan P., along with instructors Steve Summers and Paul Kalina. Together they completed the course with a corrected time of 13:36:35.

Congratulations to the crew on an incredible race and thank you for representing Seattle Sailing Club on the international stage.

Ever wondered if there's a smarter way to own a sailboat?

If your sailboat spends more time at the dock than on the water, Seattle Sailing Club's Fleet Owner Program could be worth exploring. It's designed for owners who want to offset some of the costs of ownership while keeping their boat active and introducing more people to sailing.

Steve shares how the program works and what it looks like to have your boat join the SSC fleet.

If you are interested in learning more, reach out to us at 206-782-5100 or email Steve at [email protected]

SailFest is BACK!! The first race of the season kicks off next Friday, bringing together sailors from across the community for a fun, casual evening on the water. Hosted with the Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle (C*C Seattle) and Sloop Tavern Yacht Club , Sailfest is open to sailors and racers of all experience levels.

And if you're an SSC member, racing is completely free. Just one more perk of membership.

After the race, the bar at C*C will be open for anyone who wants to stick around and swap stories from the water.

Will we see you on the starting line?

Most sailing classes end before the sun goes down. This one is just getting started.

Over 3 days and 2 nights, our ASA 106 Advanced Coastal Cruising students learn what it’s really like to manage a boat offshore. Night watches, sailing in the dark, advanced navigation, heavy weather tactics, emergency procedures and the kind of decision-making that only comes from hands-on experience underway.

There’s something pretty unforgettable about standing watch in the middle of the night with nothing around you but black water, wind and navigation lights in the distance.

Huge congratulations to this crew for taking on one of the most advanced courses we offer at SSC. 🌙⛵️

If you are ready, our next class is running August 28-30, check out more here: https://f.mtr.cool/wlfmeyqipm

Racing sailboats is basically a group project powered by wind and adrenaline.

Zoom in for some very important racing wisdom gathered somewhere between mark roundings, tangled sheets and people yelling “STARBOARD” a little too confidently.

Where are our seasoned racers? Let's hear some of your tips! 👇

Welcome Manic to the Seattle Sailing Club fleet. ⛵️

What makes this J/80 even more special is the story behind her.

Before joining SSC, Manic was a fire-damaged boat named Volce that most people would’ve written off. But in February 2025, her owner, Mike Cain, took on the challenge of bringing her back to life, spending the next year rebuilding her piece by piece in a Ballard shop.

What followed was a lot of fiberglass dust, long weekends and learning along the way. With help from Kris Henderson of Henderson Boat Company, Manic slowly transformed from a damaged project boat into the fast, beautiful J/80 she is today.

Now she’s back on the water and officially part of the fleet.

“What’s the name of your therapist?”

Seattle Sailing Club, of course.

Side effects may include salty hair, lighter moods and an obsession with checking the wind forecast.

This class is a popular one, we are fully booked, except ONE SPOT LEFT!! In our June 13th class.

What actually happens during a 103/104 Cruise n Learn class? ⛵️

For 5 days and 4 nights, you live aboard a sailboat and cruise through the San Juan Islands while learning how to confidently handle a cruising boat in the real world.

You’ll plan routes, read tides and currents, dock, anchor, cook onboard, learn boat systems and rotate through every role on the boat while sailing from destination to destination. Some days are sunny downwind sails into quiet anchorages. Other days might mean navigating currents, docking in tight spaces or adjusting plans based on weather. That’s the point. Instead of learning in a classroom, you learn by actually doing it.

By the end of the trip, you'll leave with way more confidence, real cruising experience and often a few unforgettable sunsets along the way.

This isn’t just a sailing class. It’s a full immersion into cruising life in the Pacific Northwest.

First sailing class and already on top of the world.

American Sailing ASA 101 is the class for people who have always wanted to try sailing but didn’t know where to start. Over 15 hours on the water, you’ll learn how to steer, trim sails, work with the wind and actually sail the boat yourself. No experience needed. Just show up ready to learn, laugh a little and spend a weekend out on Puget Sound doing something most people only dream about.

Send us a message and we can help get you started sailing.
