✨Member Spotlight✨
Meet Harrison and Michael! Here is a little about them in Harrison’s words:
Michael grew up in the mountains of New Mexico, while I grew up in San Francisco. We met in Texas (fall 2015), got married four years later, and moved to Seattle in December 2024. Professionally, Michael is a real estate broker with Compass, while I lead PAWS (Progressive Animal Welfare Society), a nonprofit focused on companion animal adoption and wildlife rehabilitation.

How long have you been a member of GLSC?
Since early 2025

How has being a part of the gym benefited you?
It’s been an incredibly positive community to become part of. The coaches are thoughtful, knowledgeable, and encouraging, and the teammates have been equally welcoming and supportive. One of the things we’ve appreciated most about GLSC is having experienced coaches helping refine movement and technique. We’ve both seen and felt real improvements in our form and strength over our first year here. Beyond the physical improvements, it’s honestly helped us build community after moving to Seattle. Having a place with genuinely positive people has made a huge difference.

What is your favorite movement or workout?
Michael has recently become very fond of deadlifts, especially as he’s gotten more comfortable with the technique and seen the progress that comes with it. He also gravitates toward workouts that feel athletic and fast-paced. I’m partial to rowing, squats, and workouts that lean a little endurance-heavy; there’s something very satisfying about settling into a longer effort and grinding through it.

What is your favorite music or pump-up song?
Michael tends to lean toward a remix: something with a strong beat or good workout tempo. For me, as a definite child of the ’90s, Green Day or Stone Temple Pilots are among the options: the right balance of nostalgia and momentum for a workout.

✨Thank you for being part of the GLSC community, Harrison and Michael!

✨Coaching Education Spotlight: Christian!✨ Congratulations to Coach Christian for completing the EXOS Performance Specialist Certification!

This course provides an in-depth education in athletic performance systems, focusing on movement preparation, speed and agility development, plyometrics, recovery strategies, and structured training design. The certification emphasizes a systems-based approach to coaching that blends movement quality, performance development, and long-term athletic progression.

Christian pursued this certification to further develop his athletic coaching skill set and increase his understanding of speed, agility, plyometrics, and movement systems. Through the course, he gained a stronger framework for sprint and agility progressions, movement prep, recovery strategies, and overall session organization for both group classes and Individualized Design clients.

Please congratulate him on this achievement when you see him!

🐾 Move With PAWSwalk and Make Every Mile Matter! Your fellow member and PAWS CEO, Harrison Edell, is looking to form his own GLSC team for this year’s PAWSwalk!

PAWSwalk is a virtual community celebration that brings animal lovers together to get moving for a cause that matters–all while helping raise $250,000 for animals in need. You can walk, run, hike, rollerskate, bike, birdwatch…however you choose to move, you can log those miles. PAWS is trying to rack up 30,000 miles and turn that into $30,000 to support PAWS’ lifesaving work for animals. Every mile you log unlocks $1 towards this shared goal.

Harrison’s team QR code will be posted by the water fountain for those who would like to join. Registration is $20 each. Visit the link to join his team! https://tinyurl.com/bdeamvss

You can learn more about all the great things that PAWS does locally at https://www.paws.org/ , as well as more about the PAWSwalk at pawswalk.donordrive.com

✨Member Spotlight✨ Meet Natasha!
Here is a little about her in her own words:
I moved to Seattle 13 years ago and never want to leave. I love exploring the mountains, forests, and the Sound (ask me about tide pooling if you want me to talk your ear off) with my husband and 2 elementary-aged kids.

How long have you been a member of GLSC?
Since September 2025. Just long enough to find most equipment, but still learn new things almost every class

How has being a part of the gym benefitted you?
After a long hiatus from being a mediocre high school track athlete, I took up running (and skiing!) about 3 years ago. Adding resilience, strength and mobility classes to my rotation has helped me feel like a stronger runner with fewer injuries.

What is your favorite movement or workout?
Hurdles or the agility ladder. They’re both really hard for me, but I can feel myself getting better every time I practice. My “someday” goal is to be able to do an unassisted pull-up.

What is your favorite music or pump-up song?
My running playlist is eclectic - Florence & The Machine, Sia, Mumford & Sons and Bad Bunny make appearances

✨Thank you for being part of the GLSC community, Natasha!

💙 Beat the Bridge Update! 💚 Team Avary’s Autoimmune Anarchists had a 100% success rate this weekend!

Everyone on the team not only finished the entire 5-mile run, but also beat the bridge on their way to total domination. They were recognized by the organizers as one of the top fundraising teams, raising over $12k!

Coach Nick is better known for his deadlift than his run, so we know he put all of his dad-energy into beating that bridge and finishing on his feet.

Great job Avary and family! 🏆
