If your low back hurts in backbends, the answer is getting into your upper back and shoulder blades.
In Upward Dog, when the shoulders roll forward and the chest stays behind the arms, the movement often gets pushed into the low back.
Instead, work on creating space through the upper back with a yoga chair:
✨ Roll the outer shoulders back
✨ Draw the shoulder blades into the back
✨ Straighten the arms as you move the chest forward
Your backbend should be distributed through your whole spine, not dumped into one vulnerable spot.
Save this and try it in your next practice.
