JULY NOMINATION MEMBERSHIP

Take this opportunity to nominate a friend or coworker or family member for a free month membership to Elevate Yoga! Good for both locations.

We love it here. And we want you to share the goodness of yoga with your favorite people. We are sure they will love it, too.

*July nomination is for a person, not a small business.

No strings attached, tag someone and tell them why you think they would benefit from a free month at Elevate! (Not sponsored) PLEASE tell them (and all of us!) WHY they deserve this. [If you just tag a name or names, they won’t be included in the drawing.]

Name will be chosen by random name wheel on Thursday, July 2.

GUEST INSTRUCTOR-ESTHER VAN DER HOEF
[Workshop & Subbing]

Esther is a student and friend of Elevate Yoga, who resides and teaches in the Netherlands, but comes to the area to visit family for a few weeks during the summer.

We were lucky enough to have her teach us last year, and she is BACK if you missed her!

Esther’s classes are described as playful, safe, yet challenging. In her classes, there is room for exploration, and all emotions are welcome. With humour and personal attention she hopes to spark your own curiosity about your body and mind. She likes to pay attention to detail and this shows in her yoga classes. After studying and teaching yoga for several years, Esther decided to dive deeper into anatomy by going back to school for a PT-degree. She now combines working as a PT in neuro-rehab with teaching yoga. Esther is certified E-RYT 500 and YACEP (Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider).

SUNDAY JULY 26 2-4P ($50/$45 members)
FUNCTIONAL YOGA WORKSHOP

In this workshop, we will work to understand individual anatomical variations using the functional yoga approach of Paul Grilley, and apply this knowledge to both active and passive (Yin and also Restorative) practice, empowering practitioners and teachers to modify poses effectively for every body.

The workshop is based on the Anatomical Variations pictures Paul and Suzee Grilley made of the bones they studied. We will start with the “functional yoga sutra’s” in a short lecture from guest instructor Esther van der Hoef, and then we will also do some interactive exploration to look for some of these common (and normal, healthy) variations in the participants. We will also explore how these concepts show up in “yang” or hatha yoga poses.

For teachers, the aim would be to provide some out of the box alternatives and inclusive
cues to share with their students. And for everybody present, we will empower them to choose a variation or modification of any asana that suits their own body and needs best, and the practical tools to know what that might be.

UNDERSTANDING CLASS FORMATS

Find yourself curious about the difference in formats at the studio? Check out this series of posts for more clarity.

Slow Flow, not to be confused with Gentle or Easy, we take a regular vinyasa style class (flow style or active yoga) and bring the pace of movement and breath down a level so you can listen more (to the cueing and to your body) and process the pose names, shapes, breath, engagement and intention at a more digestible pace.

This is a great next step if you have been regularly practicing gentle yoga, or if you find yourself constantly moving too quickly throughout life in general.
