Fishing is still going strong on the Deerfield in typical summer fashion. The best fishing is still mornings and evenings and a typical day brings 10-12 trout to the net and sometimes double that. August is a month that requires skill and thoughtfulness on your presentation-and capitalizing on your shots! It ain’t point and click fishing like May! If you’re up for the challenge it’s incredibly rewarding and it happens in luxurious weather- think shorts and sandals. The Berkshires are amazing in the summer and we only have two or three weeks left!

Fishing is trending in the right direction with solid action on the smaller streams. The big brown trout bite has been excellent with browns up to 8lbs caught this week! Prime dates are booking up fast, give me a shout and I’ll get you in the calendar.

We’ve certainly turned the corner from the winter doldrums, days are getting progressively longer and so is the bite window on the local trout here in Western Massachusetts and Southern Vermont. The fishing on the Swift has been solid from the drift boat with plenty of fat rainbows coming on midges, tiny nymphs and San Juans. The big news is the monster brown trout action. I’ve honed the tactics needed to put you on a fish of a lifetime. In the last month these tactics have accounted for a 7 lb, a 10lb and a 17.10 lb wild brown trout! That’s not including at least six fish over 21 inches. If you’re interested in learning how to catch next level trout give me a shout- the big fish will be on the prowl big time over February and March.

The Deerfield River was productive again today. It was cold and grey- a balmy 22 degrees but that didn’t deter me at all! The winter is amazing on the upper Deerfield, incredibly quiet except for the sound of the river, a chickadee tweeting, rummaging around in the leaves, and of course the sound of reel yielding line to a sweet wild brown!

Fishing has been good on the Deerfield and other local rivers. Wild brown trout are the target species but plenty of wild and holdover rainbows too! Fishing nymphs and streamers either tight line or under indicators has been working. Caught this nice wild brown this morning running a zonker under and indicator- dunked it with gusto!

10 lb wild brown this morning along with a “cute “ 21 incher, weird how a ten lb trout can make a 3 lb fish seem small lol 😆. Fishing has been SOLID for the trophy trout! Give me a shout if you want to learn how to catch a monster!

Fishing has been red hot over the last week as the post spawn wild browns are really starting to chew. Rainbows too! Streamers fished low and slow, nymphs, eggs and San Juan’s working too.
