Chrissy Gross: The Bucks’ Number One Fan
Along with the rest of the Shelter Island community, the Bucks mourn the loss of our number one fan, Chrissy Gross, who passed away on Friday September 29th. Since the Bucks became part of the Hamptons League over a decade ago, Chrissy’s huge heart embraced the team unreservedly. She housed players year after year, and made the whole team welcome at her home. Chrissy was the magic that made a collection of players feel like a family. If we needed someone to provide a post-game meal (for over 50 people), Chrissy would step in and prepare the food herself. She rarely missed a game. Sitting with her entourage between home plate and the Bucks dugout, she was always passionately (and rarely silently!) engaged with our team’s fortune. Even her beloved dogs, first Bella and then Bucky, wearing their orange game shirts, became mascots for the team, lining up with the players on the field at the end of every game.
Losing Chrissy leaves a great hole in our hearts, but the memory of her selfless love of the Bucks is, and will be, an inspiration for us all. For Chrissy—Let’s Go Bucks!
