The Shippensburg Community Parks and Recreation Authority (SCPRA) was recently incorporated for the purpose of providing positive, meaningful and quality recreational programs, activities and facilities that will encourage and promote a healthy and growing community. We are an independent Authority that is very much invested in inviting community input to help us create a recreational program that will serve all members of our community. We would like to invite the community to our monthly meetings (first Thursday of the Month).

An impressive performance this evening, as our 10u-Black softball team outlasted the weather (and darkness) to come away with a one-run victory over Scotland.

NEXT SATURDAY, SEPT 26th —

Join the Middle Spring Watershed Association for Stream Day from 10:00am until noon at Dykeman Spring Nature Park (the duck pond area!) on Saturday, September 26th!

Free fun educational activities for kids, site history and watershed related information for the whole family — then at 12:00pm there’s a rubber duck derby ($5 per duck).

The MSWA helps aids our maintenance reach and influences other initiatives we plan at the park, so please support them as they continue to help impact our community.

Hosted at Shippensburg Memorial Park —

On Saturday, September 26th and Sunday, September 27th USA Softball Tournament Director John Triplett is organizing the 3rd Annual Fall Classic Showdown.

This memorial event features 8 venues and over 100 teams in total; however, our Shippensburg facility will be the location for the 14u-B division — hosting as many as 24 different teams with 52 games played over the weekend.

Games times each day are played at:
8:00a-9:40a-11:20a-1:00p-2:40p-4:20p

*Saturday — 20 teams in pool play (30 games on 5 fields)
*Sunday — 24 teams in gold & silver bracket play (22 games on 4 fields)

Dykeman Spring Nature Park 🪶

The allure of the ‘Hatch House’ dates back to the 1870’s and eventually the spring and surrounding land was purchased by the Shippensburg Borough in 1968.

Gradually it was expanded into a 56-acre park, known for its ‘Duck Pond’, offering an outdoor oasis encompassing history and a natural habitat.

Nature lovers, wildlife enthusiasts, historians, trail explorers, environmental and ecological experts all take delight in this unique landscape.

Plus, having a nature-park right in town provides an opportunity for locals to enjoy a shortcut to passive recreation interests without the travel — and creates a possibility for the SCPRA to offer activities and programs related to eduction, leisure, and conservation.

The FSCP group formed in 2023 and is getting more active, hoping to build a bigger presence and make a positive impact on parks in the greater Shippensburg area.

Wed, Sept 16th: Ship-Silver vs. South Hamilton (Field 6)

The SCPRA is in the process of helping to extend the rail trail from Ship Station to Orrstown Road.

Director Josh Mitchell, who oversees the project for the Park Authority, said — “phase 1 of this vision is getting closer to completion. Thanks to the determination and hard work of a lot of people we’re hoping final design and engineering will conclude soon.”

The trail extension will add another 1.3 miles of pedestrian pathway for users of the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail, heading in a south-west direction.
