Ring 8 will honor Kristian Vasquez for his Outstanding Contribution to the Sweet Science! 🏆

The Ring 8 Boxing Association will present Kristian Vasquez, promoter, owner of Strong Island Boxing Gym, and creator of NextUp Boxing League and Strong Island Fight Night Series, with its Outstanding Contribution to the Sweet Science Award.

Kristian’s boxing journey began in 1989. He became a Junior Olympic Champion, Kid Gloves Champion and two time New York Golden Gloves Champion. After competing as an amateur until age 26, he turned professional and scored a first round knockout in his debut. When doctors discovered a growth on his brain, he was advised to stop competing.

That moment did not end his journey. It gave it a new purpose.

Since 2004, Kristian has pioneered bringing the professional fight experience to amateur boxing through championship belts that fighters earn and return to defend, dramatic ring walks, major event production, media coverage and livestream broadcasts. His mission has always been to give amateur fighters the platform, recognition and exposure their dedication deserves.

Through this work, Kristian has helped pave the way for other amateur promoters to create bigger stages, expand opportunities and bring greater awareness to amateur boxing.

For over 22 years, he has coached youth, adults and competitive fighters, helping people improve their health, confidence and discipline through boxing.

“I have been involved with USA Boxing since 1989 as a fighter, coach, gym owner, mentor and promoter. I truly live this life. Boxing is my passion and a gift God placed in my heart. It is art mixed with violence inside a controlled arena. It is discipline, strategy, courage and sacrifice. Boxing is truly poetry in motion.”

Kristian is deeply grateful to Ring 8 President Ron McNair and the Ring 8 Boxing Association for this incredible honor.

Ji working the bag focusing on the jab while Head Coach Kristian watches on and reminds her what she needs to do. Only 4 months in the gym and she has come a long way, so much more work to do and sharpening up but she’s grinding and focused. Running & Training atleast 5 times a week and we see the growth. Keep up the hard work!

Coach Kristian putting his Teen crew through their drills. Some finished the session with some technical sparring. Great way to get these kids starting their weekend. Training like champs.
