Special shout out to our fencer Lily, who killed it this past weekend! She placed first in our morning Senior Women’s Saber event, earning her D2026. In the afternoon, Lily fenced Senior Mixed Saber and ended up tied for third out of 21 fencers.

We hope you enjoyed your celebratory ice cream, Lily!

Congratulations to USA Fencing’s newest observed saber referees! 🎉

Huge thanks to cheney.chris89 for teaching our referee seminar on Saturday and offering referee observations at our tournament on Sunday. About thirty saber fencers took the seminar from different St. Louis clubs, and eight Fence St. Louis fencers took the plunge to get hands-on experience and observed.

Today was our referee seminar with Certified Referee Instructor and FIE referee Chris Cheney!

We had a day packed with information for over two dozens of our fencers and fencers from other clubs. Tomorrow, 7 Fence St. Louis fencers will be observed as new referees.

Yesterday was a blast!

We hosted our very first “Teach a Friend to Fence” afternoon. Our fencers were allowed to bring a friend or family member and then were coached through how to teach their guest fencing basics. By the end of the afternoon, all the fencers got to fence their guests, and guests got to fence other beginners.

There was so much joy in the room with our fencers enthusiastically sharing their passion with a friend!

This week is our Competitive Camp with Coach Zanko from drewfencing. We’ve been working on tempo and preparations for this camp, with the overarching theme being how we express ourselves through fencing.

Coaches Tyler, Jonathon, and Jamie are participating in camp, as are 14 other fencers! We are learning as both coaches and athletes.

That’s a wrap on our beginner fencing camps! We had three action-packed weeks this summer and everyone left with some solid fencing skills. 🤺

Everyone talks about private lessons, coaching styles, and finding the "best" coach, but very little gets into why certain coaching relationships seem to produce elite athletes over decades. We welcomed Elizabeth Bound to our fencing club to lead a deep stretching session for our Competitive Class fencers! Elizabeth focused on all the muscles we use during fencing. Everyone had a chance to ask questions on stretches for different muscle groups.

Thanks so much Elizabeth for coming out! We can’t wait to collaborate again.
