It was Senior Night at Antioch High. The marching band, the football game, talk of homecoming ... it all got me thinking about Autumn. Up here in the Midwest, the nights are already cooler, and the mornings have a new little nip, which brings me to "rudeneja," our . It's Lithuanian for the gentle, gradual transition of the world into autumn.

Be honest. When asked, "how have you been?", how often have you replied, "I'm so busy ..." and expressed the frantic-ness of life that week? is Greek for distracted, our , which literally means to be dragged around in circles.

It speaks of being pulled in multiple directions simultaneously, producing frantic energy and agitation. Being hijacked by anxiety; attention yanked between competing demands until you no longer can distinguish what actually matters from what merely feels pressing.

This is not a new concept. The Bible has a lot to say about anxiety and our human desire for inner peace (shalom). Rolling out my mat this week August 31 - September 5.

I guess I forgot to publish the post I wrote last week, so here's the lowdown:

was my last week, and I wrote a post telling how it's an adjective for this time of summer (at least here in the Midwest), when it's a little less oppressive but still summer. Nights are even a little cooler from mid-August thru mid-September. Gone are the , traditionally mid-July to mid-August (altho my friends in the south might disagree).

I usually end each class with this closing, "Go in peace; shalom; namaste.” The Hebrew word (שָׁלוֹם), our , translates to peace, but it has a much deeper meaning than just quiet or the lack of a fight. It comes from a root word meaning wholeness, completeness, and health. When you say shalom, you wish total well-being and balance for someone. Or, in modern Hebrew, people use shalom to say both hello when they meet and goodbye when they leave.

Namaste is a timeless expression of respect, humility, and human connection rooted in ancient Sanskrit wisdom. In modern India, namaste can also be used to say both hello upon meeting and goodbye when parting.

Ever felt after yoga?
I hope so, because at the end of practice, many times I see your faces "shining brightly, dazzling, or glowing with great beauty and splendor"--the definition of our .

There is an inner glow from connecting your thinking with your breath and then breath with body. After savasana, capture that glow for those first few moments before it fades. Take a mental snapshot. Your yoga gift to you.
