The San Francisco Youth Baseball League (SFYBL) is the largest and oldest youth baseball league in San Francisco. The SFYBL is a partnership between the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department and SF FLAME (San Francisco Fire Dept. The SFYBL is run by a board of partner and volunteer commissioners. For nearly 30 years this partnership has continued an SF tradition of giving San Francisco kids the fields, services, and commitment necessary to experience competitive and fun youth baseball with the unique opportunity of forming their own teams. In the SFYBL, base stealing, lead offs, and pick-offs are a standard part of the game starting with our PONY Mustang Division (9-10U). We believe kids want to play “real baseball”. We also believe the SFYBL experience better prepares kids for baseball in the middle school leagues, high school, or beyond…and it’s fun too! In addition, the diamond sizes become progressively larger by division. We believe these differences also better prepare developing baseball players for potential high school baseball should they have the desire. There is no draft where your child is assigned to a different team each season. In the SFYBL, your child can play on a team with his/her friends, classmates, etc. season after season as long as he/she is age-eligible. In the 2015 spring season, we had nearly 3,000 players competing on 254 teams within seven PONY divisions and sub-divisions. The teams were coached by over 600 committed and mostly volunteer coaches. Registration for SFYBL opens November 14th and closes November 30th. Registration is team-based as well as individual. The SFYBL Opening Day Ceremony will be February 27th. The season begins on February 29th and ends in late May/early June. Players practice and play games on 28 San Francisco Recreation and Parks fields throughout San Francisco.
