Things we’ve noticed and learned 45 days into 75 Hard

🔹Mega Strong is a cheat code for getting through 75 Hard. Almost all of the daily tasks were things we were already doing and preaching about on a regular basis.

🔹You start to appreciate things that once were centered around drinking alcohol. For example: we thought in order to go golfing we needed to have a drink or two every time. We now are actually enjoying golf and becoming better at it because it’s not looked at as drinking time. You start to appreciate things because of the activity and not the buzz.

🔹By day 20, we noticed a drastic decrease in inflammation in our bodies. It is absolutely insane how good you can feel when you take the junk and sugar filled crap out of your diet for an extended period of time.

🔹We realized we were taking our cheat meals way too seriously each week and by doing that, we were working hard all week just to have to reset after having a cheat meal that was insanely big. We now don’t have to feel like we are “restarting” on Monday.

🔹We are finally living our healthiest and best lives.

🔹Outdoor workouts have been a complete game changer. We now have more energy than ever, because we get recharged by being out in the sun and fresh air each day. We sometimes never stepped outside during bad weather days (which are often when you live in South Dakota.) In the US alone, 42% of adults are Vitamin D deficient, while 50% of children between ages 1 and 5 and 70% of children between ages 6 and 11 have low vitamin D stores. Sun exposure is the most important natural source of Vitamin D. The body uses the vitamin to absorb the calcium it needs to build and maintain bones.

🔹We now look at the word “motivation” as a dirty word. Motivation is for those who haven’t decided whether to commit to their goals or how much time and effort they are willing to spend to achieve them. Being “motivated” has nothing to do with it, you must be dedicated and disciplined. Dirk and I wake up feeling “motivated” to workout at 5:30 am maybe once a week. The rest of the time we have to force ourselves, because your goals will only be attained if you put in the work on a daily basis.

We don’t preach quick fixes in our program. We preach sustainable habits that will result in a long term better and healthier life. This client was already thin, but she wanted to build up strength as she had very little and hadn’t worked out in 6 years. Check out her testimony below 👇🏻

“Looking at these pictures, I can't see much of a difference. But this past month, I have noticed a lot of differences:
-Went from only being able to do wall pushups to *almost being able to do a knee pushup (or 16).
-Was able to complete actual situps for the first time since my baby was born 6 years ago (I was unable to work out when pregnant due to an irritable uterus and previous preterm labor, so I had a nice 4 finger DR gap, went to PT but was still so weak)
-Started off with every modification, body weight only, didn't even own weights, to using increasingly heavy weights for work outs
-Consistently worked out, only missed 3 days of workouts all month, previously missed about 6 years of working out
- Started taking supplements to fuel my workouts and day.
- Went from only looking at calories on food to looking at all parts of the label, especially protein, and got at least 100g of protein each day, hardly ate any before
-Started reading labels on food in our house and at the grocery store, making healthier swaps for foods
-Increased amount of food eaten each day and frequency of eating
-Showed my three kiddos how their mom can do hard things!

Love this post from Let’s Reach New Heights Nutrition!

What does staying on track mean? Everyone has a different mindset when it comes to staying on track so I asked a few friends what it means to them!

Jess: To me it means tracking macros Monday-Friday, but being mindful on the weekends and making sure to hit my protein goals every day. Filling my macros with whole, God made foods 80% of the time. I may have a protein bar/shake, a treat here and there, but my other meals should be full of clean, simple ingredients. Not over eating, stopping when I’m full, especially on a cheat meal. Mega Strong workout 6 days a week, with extra movement (walk, run, swim, or bike) 7 days, along with a minimum of 10k steps a day. This is pretty easy for me in my job, but my day off to make sure I’m getting a walk in and moving. I set my rings at 12 hr stand, 700 activity, and 50 minute exercise and I try to close these even on my rest day.

Shelby: Staying on track has changed and evolved for me over time as changes in life have happened, mainly having 2 kids! I have always been conscious of my health, but I never took it as seriously as I have the past 4-5 years, 3 specifically doing a strict program like Mega Strong. I strive to track my macros (thanks to Sydney for getting these adjusted to fit my goals!) and hit within 10g of each, workout 5-6x per week, at least 120oz of water a day and 7-8 hours of sleep. My mental health has been one of my biggest priorities, starting with my relationship with God and this body He blessed me with by feeding it with good, wholesome foods and moving! Each day is a new opportunity to get better, and we should take advantage of that!

Sydney: For me staying on track is tracking my macros 5 days a week while still hitting my protein goal the other 2 days, strength training with MSF 6-7 days a week, walking/running 5-7 days, and hitting 10,000 steps everyday. I have really focused in on hitting a higher protein goal with whole foods even if that means I am eating chicken or canned tuna at 10 am for a mid morning snack.

Megan: My staying on track goals would be strength training 6 days a week between my workout and Dirk's, 10,000 steps minimum a day, hitting my protein goals each day, and self development each day, and being a good example to my clients. We also have the outdoor workout for 75 day hard which has included runs with weighted vests, outdoor interval training, weighted farmer carries, and pushing our Tomi in a wagon up and down our driveway. I strive to show our clients that we can be outdoors and creative in our workouts while taking care of our family as well.

Ashley: Staying on track for me is a little different at the moment since I’m doing 75 hard, but it’s being consistent with my workouts, eating well balanced meals and avoiding the term diet. I don’t stick to a certain type of diet, (no keto or other fad diet, just being mindful of what I’m fueling my body with by tracking with my fitness pal)
The biggest change for our family has been really cutting out the processed foods. Meal planning/online grocery shopping every Sunday has definitely helped us to not choose the easy fast food route during the week. I also put it all on our calendar in the kitchen so I can view it everyday. I’m a visual person so having that near me helps tremendously.

Everyone is different and has different ways of hitting their goals but we can all make it happen with consistency and dedication.

My friend Jess sent me this podcast this morning from one of my favorite authors- Ed Mylett. She knew how much I would love this podcast as she has been with me through the past 3 years while Dirk and I have learned a lot of life lessons on growth and making people uncomfortable. She has seen as we have lost friendships due to small mindedness and jealousy. The best part of the struggle of the past 3 years while we’ve grown? We have completely weeded out weak and small minded people from our lives and our business. Take a minute to listen to this podcast (it may be my new favorite ever!) and it is a quick listen. Here are some of my favorite quotes from it below 👇🏻

Conformity is the ultimate form of cowardice.
Small minded people will constantly try to project their smallness onto you to get you to shrink.

Small minded people will criticize you for trying, for not conforming and they will criticize you even if you win or lose because people who are small minded and losing in life like to criticize and bully people. They like to criticize people because it’s the only time in their life that they have any sort of power or value or that they are even getting noticed. They aren’t noticed because they have stuck in the middle of the pack, they have never done anything daring or outside the box.

You have to decide in your life that you will not take advice from these people or think like these people. You will continue to be uncomfortable and make those around you uncomfortable.

“I will not shrink myself to make you comfortable”

Successful and happy people do difficult things. Unhappy and unsuccessful people stay comfortable and do easy things each day.

After filling out a short online questionnaire, I will create a running plan tailored to your specific needs and goals. This will include a 12 weeks of varied workouts for an ultimate goal to finish a 5K or a half marathon. Workouts will include basic runs, tempo runs, and interval training, and will progress each week. There will be 3 to 4 days of running per week, with recommended cross training on the alternate days, such as walking or biking. This plan is intended to use in combination with Mega Stong workouts, as strength training with running has proven benefits to help improve overall performance.

Like you always say, time flies when you’re having fun! 🙂 I am so thankful I found a program that pushes me to be the best version of myself every single day, even on the hard days. Getting up at 5:00 every morning to get my workout in before work has become a routine for myself, and I wouldn’t want my mornings to start any other way. About Mega Strong Fitness

Hey everyone! My name is Megan Assman and I am the proud mama to a beautiful 3 year old little girl named Rylee, engaged to Dirk, and have been a Certified Personal Trainer for about 3 years. I trained at a gym for just over a year and have been doing virtual group training through Skype & Zoom for about 3 years now.

🔵 My workouts are 45 minute circuit style, strength training classes on Monday’s through Friday’s from 5:30 am CST to 6:15 am. On Monday’s we do upper body/core, Tuesday’s are total body, Wednesday’s are lower body/cardio, Thursday’s are total body with a HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) emphasis and Friday’s are upper body, cardio, & core. I also do a bonus lower body day almost every Saturday. These classes are designed to burn fat and build muscle from the comfort of your home!
🔵 My classes are for any fitness level and for both males and females. I show you the advanced version of the exercise and then how to modify it for beginners. I have all age levels in my class, from 16 year olds through 65 year olds. I make sure that every class is new and different so we never get bored. I also have my fiancé, Dirk, in the video doing every class with me so that he can show the guys a target weight to shoot for.
🔵 The Zoom app can be downloaded on your laptop, tablet or phone and is super easy to navigate! I take payments through both Paypal and Venmo and require payment at the beginning of every month. I send out invoices the last few days of the month and expect payment before the 4th. If you want to cancel your subscription, I MUST be notified by the 25th of the month. NO EXCEPTIONS.
🔵 All you need for equipment is two sets of dumbbells (heavy and light). A set of resistance bands (I have cheap ones I recommend off of amazon) and a sturdy, flat chair to step up on. A small step ladder will also work.
🔵 The LIVE classes are $60 per month, which comes out to be about $2.30 per class and anytime you miss a class, all you have to do is message me and I will email you the recorded version of the workout. There is also the option to purchase just the EMAIL VERSION of the classes for $40 per month. With the email version you will receive a full 45 minute recording of the class via email by 6:30 am CST every morning, but I do not check in with you. You have 48 hours to get the workout done before the link will no longer work.
🔵 I am a certified personal trainer and these classes are MUCH less expensive than personal training, my online competitors, or purchasing a gym membership where there is nobody there to guide you. My online competitors charge anywhere from $80 per month all the way up to over $220 per month. You can sign up at anytime during the month and I will just pro-rate the price. There are no refunds once you pay for a month of workouts.
