Many people decide aerial isn't for them before they ever try. They think they're not strong enough, flexible enough, coordinated enough, or too old to start.

Then they take that first class and discover they're capable of so much more than they thought.

Sometimes the hardest part isn't aerial itself. It's giving yourself permission to try.

What advice would you give to someone who's thinking about taking their first aerial class?

🌟 Student Spotlight: Danica 🌟

This month, we're excited to feature Danica!

Danica has been training aerial for just over 2.5 years and has become a wonderful part of the South Dakota Aerial & Arts community. After seeing our performers in the Parade of Lights, she was inspired to give aerial a try and hasn't looked back since.

While silks is currently her favorite apparatus, she's also been enjoying exploring hammock and discovering new skills along the way.

When asked what she loves most about SDAA, Danica shared that it's the supportive community. She appreciates learning alongside fellow students and coaches who encourage one another every step of the way. She also loves the flexibility of the unlimited membership, which allows her to fit classes and open gyms into her unique work schedule.

Her advice for anyone thinking about trying aerial?

"My only regret is that I didn't start sooner! Many people think they could never do aerial, but you'd be surprised what you're capable of. Keep showing up, trust the process, and you'll shock yourself with what you can achieve. It's your own journey at your own pace. No expectations, no judgments. Just show up and keep doing you."

We're so grateful to have Danica as part of our aerial family and can't wait to see where her aerial journey takes her next! ❀️

Help us celebrate Danica in the comments! πŸ‘

Why do aerial coaches constantly remind students to breathe? πŸ˜…

Because when we’re concentrating hard, nervous, or trying something challenging, it’s super common to accidentally hold our breath. In aerial silks, that can make muscles tense faster, movements feel harder, and skills feel more exhausting than they need to.

Breathing helps with control, endurance, and staying calm in the air. Sometimes the difference between β€œI can’t do this” and landing the skill is simply remembering to exhale. ✨

Be honest… how many times has your coach reminded YOU to breathe during class? πŸ˜‚πŸ‘‡
