At Rugged Cross, we’re teaching riders to lead, groom, tack up, ride, care for their horse, and understand the responsibility that comes along with loving these animals.

Our students learn from the ground up, at every age and every stage. Confidence is built one lesson at a time, skills are developed at each rider’s pace, and some pretty special friendships are made along the way. 🐴

Lots of applications have rolled in already! Reminder to get yours submitted before September 18th!

The Jane & June Legacy Scholarship is officially OPEN for applications! 🤍🐴

Named in honor of Courtney’s grandmothers, Alberta Jane Hargens and Lois June Bruget, this scholarship was created to help remove financial barriers for young people who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience all that horses have to offer.

For our first scholarship cycle, three recipients will each receive a $200 scholarship to be used toward riding lessons, camps, or other eligible youth equine programming at Rugged Cross Stables.

Applicants must be ages 7–18. Both current Rugged Cross students and those who would like to begin their journey with horses are encouraged to apply. No previous horse experience is required.

Applications are confidential, and financial documentation is not required.

Summer Home Show ✔️

Such a fun morning spent with these students! Home shows have been a great addition to our program, giving riders a fun, low-pressure environment to get their feet wet in the show ring, build confidence, and show off the skills they’ve been working on in lessons to their friends and family.

Next up: MAHA Fall Classic in a few weeks for our show team!

Summer sure flew by, and we’re starting to wind down another busy show season.

Some of our RCS academy riders represented so well this past weekend at the Gentle Spirits Open Show. Good horsemanship, good sportsmanship, and a great group of ladies who handled themselves and their horses with confidence.

Fall Barn Day at Rugged Cross Stables! 🐴🍂

Spend a fall day at the barn with us! Riders will enjoy a full day of horses, riding, games, crafts, and plenty of barn fun.

📅 October 12th
⏰ 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
🐴 School-aged kids, 7+
👖 Long pants & closed-toe shoes required
🥪 Bring a sack lunch
💧 Snacks & water provided

No horse experience necessary. Just come ready for a fun day at the barn!

Canadian Nationals 2026 🇨🇦❤️

What a week, and what a milestone for Rugged Cross Stables.

This was RCS’s first national show, my first national show as a professional, and every single one of our youth riders’ first time competing on the national stage. To say I’m proud of this group, both horses and riders, would be an understatement.

First and foremost, thank you to our incredible clients for trusting me with your horses, your riders, and this journey. Taking this step as a program wouldn’t be possible without clients who believe in what we’re building at Rugged Cross and are willing to take the ride with us.

A huge thank you to the show commission, judges, officials, volunteers, and everyone behind the scenes who made this show possible. The hospitality was truly like none other. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed, appreciated, and genuinely excited to be there.

We arrived home last night tired, grateful, proud, and more motivated than ever. This was a big first for Rugged Cross, but it certainly won’t be our last. We’re coming home ready to work harder, get better, and keep building.
