It was a great day for baseball, even with a one sided game as the Frontier League defeated the Pioneer League 17-4. An early eruption of offense from your A’s put the Pioneer League in front 3-0 after clutch 2 out hits from Will Labata and Morgan Swanson. Tony Fitz stole the only base for the Pioneer League as well. All 4 runs were accounted for by the A’s when Will Labata hit a bases clearing double to score 2 runs, and Morgan Swanson followed up with an RBI single to score Labata from second. Swanson also collected another RBI in the 7th after another single. Although being off a month really showed when it came to defense, they made up for it on offense, only having 1 K between the trio at the plate. Both Fitz and Labata gave up 3 unearned runs each on the mound also. Today was a lot of fun for the players and we thank everyone for the support shown all year to conclude the 2024 season!

Will Labata #13

Will Labata “Mr. Utility” is an 8 year veteran in the SABL and is a 2 time All-Star in consecutive seasons. He is a 1x champion in the league with the Angles and one of a select few of players to represent both leagues in the 2 years of the All-Star game. Labata was born in Louisville, KY and moved to Sioux Falls, SD when he was younger. He attended Lincoln High School a few years ahead of his teammates Tony Fitz and his younger brother Dayvd Labata. Due to multiple injuries, he elected not to go to college. Labata quickly became a leader in the clubhouse with the A’s and became the team captain.

Morgan Swanson #30

Morgan “Mr. Clean” Swanson is a rookie in the SABL and is a first time All-Star. He grew up in Kaukuanna, Wi and went to Minnesota for his bachelor’s degree and is currently at USD for his PhD in Vermillion, SD. Swanson is also working as a teacher’s assistant. Amongst his busy schedule, Swanson made his way into the “clean up spot” in the batting order, not only because of his cleaning abilities, but also his speed and strength. In his free time, he hangs out with chameleons in Kenya as seen below.

Tony Fitz #7

Tony Fitz is a rookie and a first time All-Star in the SABL league. He grew up in Sioux Falls, SD and enjoys marching band. He went to Lincoln High School then continued his education at Augustana University. Fitz quickly found himself comfortable at the top the batting order after a hot start to begin the season and causing havoc on the bases with his speed on the bases. Fitz has also been known to hate having to “walk” in an at bat.

Congrats Will Labata, Morgan Swanson and Tony Fitz to being selected to the All Star game this year to represent the Pioneer League! Each one has not only impressed on the field but also displayed the qualities of leaders in the clubhouse. We will highlight each player as the game gets closer. The game will take place on September 22nd at 2p in Brandon, SD at Aspen Park 🥳

Tony Fitz Puts On Strong Pitching Performance As Athletics Fall To The Pirates

The Pirates walk off the A’s after a passed ball scored the walk off run to win 6-5 in the bottom of the 9th. The A’s had plenty of opportunities to capitalize a win, but base running mistakes and untimely errors on defense sadly ended their season.

Seth Thennis collected three hits in four at bats. Thennis singled in the second inning, doubled in the sixth inning, and singled in the 9th inning.

A single by Thennis put the A’s on the board in the top of the second.

Tony Fitz stepped on the hill first for the Athletics and had a strong outing as he went 6 innings of work, keeping the A’s in the game.

The Athletics collected 11 hits in the game. Josh B seized on their opportunities, leading the A’s with two runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The outfielder went 1-for-4 on the day. Joe Zemaitis collected two hits for Athletics in four at bats.
