Established by Charles and Betty Gibson and Scott and Mary Gibson in 1982, Family Memorials by Gibson is a tribute to the positive role of including family values in business. It had always been a dream of Charles (“Chuck”) Gibson to own his own company. He wanted to incorporate a personalized approach and a focus on quality previously unavailable in the local monument business. Chuck and Scott ha

You know it's pre-Memorial Day crunch time when Mike and Tony jump on the setting trucks for a day of manual labor!

Mr. Reilly worked with Judd to create his memorial bench to go to the Reilly family plot!

"My bench monument blends in perfectly with the others in the family! I'm looking forward to my next visit back to Sioux Falls this summer sometime to see it in person. Thanks again for all your help."

We’re excited to share a first look at the renderings for our new sign at our Sioux Falls office!

This design is especially meaningful to us, as it honors Scott and Mary Gibson, the foundation of our company and the heart behind everything we do. Their dedication to serving families with compassion, integrity, and care is something we are proud to recognize in a lasting way.

This sign is more than just an update to our space, it’s a tribute to the people who built it and the values that continue to guide us every day.

We can’t wait to bring this vision to life and share the finished piece with you soon.

❄️💨 Snow, wind, and 24,000 pounds of granite… just another day in South Dakota! 💨❄️

Yesterday we had the privilege of installing two brand new columbariums at St. Michael Cemetery. Mother Nature definitely made us earn it. With cold temps, wind, and fresh snow on the ground, it wasn’t exactly ideal conditions but our crew was determined to get it done.

Each columbarium weighs 12,000 pounds, so this wasn’t a job for just our regular boom trucks. We brought in a full-size crane to safely set them in place. Watching these massive pieces get lifted and perfectly positioned by professional crane operators is always something special.

These beautiful units, crafted from Sunset Mahogany and Jet Black granite, each hold 48 niches, adding 96 new spaces for families and loved ones.

We couldn’t have done it without some great partners:
- Dakota Granite (Milbank, SD) for the craftsmanship
- Landwehr Construction, Inc. (St. Cloud, MN) & Jerke Construction (Sioux Falls, SD) for the crane and expertise

Projects like this are a reminder that even in tough conditions, meaningful work gets done and we’re honored to be a part of it.

If you’re interested in purchasing a niche, please reach out to the St. Michael Catholic Cemetery office for more information.

❄️ Spring Update from Family Memorials by Gibson ❄️

We actually had about one week in March where we were able to start installing memorial stones, which is pretty rare for this time of year! Our crew was glad to get an early start while conditions allowed.

With the recent snow, we’ll likely have to wait until next week to resume setting stones, depending on how quickly things melt and cemeteries dry out. Our trucks are large and heavy, and we never want to risk damaging cemetery roads or grounds when they’re soft or muddy.

Also, for families waiting on final dates to be added, we haven’t started that work yet since temperatures haven’t been consistently warm enough.

Spring in South Dakota keeps us guessing! We appreciate everyone’s patience and look forward to getting back out there soon.

The winter season has a way of reminding us what matters most: love, legacy, and the people we carry with us. We were honored to create and set this memorial at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sioux Falls, crafted from Barre Gray Granite quarried in Barre, Vermont, a timeless stone known for its strength and consistent beauty.

If you’re considering a memorial or planning ahead, we’re here to help with thoughtful guidance and personalization.

We had carolers from Brandon Valley High School Choir visit our Sioux Falls office this morning. We are grateful for the Christmas spirit they were able to bring to our monument company.

This holiday season, we’re reminded that the greatest gift is taking care of one another. 🎁

At Family Memorials by Gibson, we contribute a portion of every sale to Feeding South Dakota and other local food pantries. We’re honored to present a $5,000 donation to Feeding South Dakota this year—and we also want to congratulate them on 50 years of serving the people of our beautiful state.

Mike and Maria dropped off the check today. Thank you, Feeding South Dakota, for the incredible work you do every day. ❤️
