The epee is a descendant of the dueling sword. Touches are scored only with the point of the blade, and the entire body, head‐to‐toe, is the valid target area, imitating an actual duel.

Austin Kendo Doshikai and the Kendo Association at the University of Texas host the Longhorn Invitational Team Kendo Taikai on Saturday, September 26. The SWKIF shinsa (rank examination) and godo keiko will take place on Sunday, September 27

In our dojo, we practice on mats. Although this is more comfortable than the gym floors we often experience when traveling to seminars, it can make it easy to forget (or rather, feel!) how important proper footwork and fumikomi is.
It's important to keep in mind why we move the way the way we do, and to be aware of how we practice.

No sword? No problem! We have plenty of class equipment to allow beginners to try out kendo or fencing before committing to purchasing equipment.
All you need to come to class is a comfortable outfit and a great attitude!

A couple weeks ago students from Sioux Falls Sword and Dynamic Martial Arts had the opportunity to practice their cutting! ⚔
Cutting is a great opportunity to put the concepts learned in class into practice with a live blade.

We make it as easy as possible to get involved.

Our sign-up package includes:
✔ Access to a full month of practice in your chosen art (fencing or Kendo)
✔ A free shinai (bamboo sword), or Epee (fencing sword) to keep and use as your own

We have class equipment you can use to as you learn and get comfortable. Talk to Sensei to learn more!
