Just a Horse
From time to time people tell me, "Lighten up it’s just a horse," or "That's a lot of money for just a horse." What they don't know is the distance travelled, the time spent or the emotional investment involved for "just a horse." Some of my most impactful moments have been with "just a horse".
Many hours have passed where my only company was "just a horse," but I did not once feel lonely. Some of my deepest fears and losses have been felt for β€œjust a horse," and, in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a horse" gave me comfort and a reason to keep going.
If you think it's "just a horse", then you might also think of things like "just a friend", "just a sunrise", or "just a promise."
"Just a horse" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust and pure unbridled joy. It is β€œJust a horse" that taught me compassion and patience and made me a better person. Because of "just a horse", I will rise early, stay in the barn for hours and look willingly into the future. So for me, and people like me, it's not "just a horse" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past and the pure enjoyment of the moment. "Just a horse" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts from the worries of the day.
I hope that everyone has the opportunity sometime in their life to really understand that it's not "just a horse", but an amazing gift from the creator, that gives people purpose and keeps them from being β€œjust a human".
So the next time you hear the phrase "just a horse", smile & shrug…. because they "just don’t understand". We are the lucky ones.. best friends with β€œjust a horse”.

Phil is doing a lot better (he had a mild colic on Monday) & headed to a 4 day Horsemanship, Leadership & Life Clinic with Liv. We are proud of her hard work to save the registration money… and as a horse-mom it makes me so happy to see her demonstrate that she values continuing equine education on her own. Also It gives me (Ms. Raquel) comfort that where Phil is staying (where the clinic is being held) is just a couple of miles from my childhood home. 🎠
**May the Lord Give wisdom, calmness, and confidence to the students as they work with their beautiful animals that were put into their care by the creator. May the horses be treated with kindness and respect, and may every person leave with a greater love for horses and a deeper capacity for human compassion & equine understanding. And May God protect the safety of all the horses & their humans.**

Today turned out to be beautiful - a relief after almost a week of extremely wet and cool weather that came on suddenly & caused Prince Phillip to go into colic last night. It was no fun for anyone but praise God he turned around with some anti-inflammatories & prayer. Phil is a lot better today but we still benched him for today. Thank you to those who happily rescheduled to give him some time to recover ….everybody loves that boy! We had some Trixie B & Fern riders out and they did great! It was lovely to see y’all 🫢🏼
