Hello Everyone! This is Keaton Anderson personally sending my final sign off as leader of the Somerset Fishing Team. As some of you know I took a new teaching position at Meyer Middle School in River Falls and will no longer be affiliated or involved with the fishing club. This decision was to be closer to my family, teach and work in the same town and district where my kids (Amelia and Carter) will go to school, and to be as involved in Amelia and Carter's education and activities as I was at Somerset for nine years with other people's kids. Through the fishing team, Spartan Livestream, and other activities, I have made so many fond memories with hundreds of kids that will stick with me forever. One memory will live at SHS in the trophy cases from our Sixth Place finish at State three years ago. The fishing team is no doubt the hardest part of leaving Somerset.
After starting the club, I gave it everything I could to give kids a place to belong, have fun, and get involved. The Three C's of the Fishing Team are Character, Conservation, and Citizenship. Everything we did revolved around these words such as the Bass Lake Tournament, State adventures, St. Croix River camping, river fishing after school, Homecoming, every Saturday outing, every tournament, and more.
The team is NOT breaking down into its smallest parts in a solvent (dissolving). It will live on starting with the transition to a wonderful group of parents! Those people and contacts will be posted here sometime. However, they still need your help! They will do their best with no official staff member in SHS to recruit, promote, and check grades. Please support the club by going to the Bass Lake Tournament, buying WIFA fundraiser raffle tickets, donate supplies you don't want, or donate money in any form.
If you're wondering the answer is "No" I will not be competing against Somerset as a Wildcat this year. I will be taking time to be with my family and do "Dad Stuff" on Saturdays! I'll truly miss the club as it's one of my most proud accomplishments of my life thus far. The ripple effect of belonging in young people's lives can be felt and observed through things like this and I encourage all of you to create, notice, and support any efforts like this club. You never really know your impact until much later, so start now.
Thank you to everyone and every sponsor that has supported us by donating. Thank you to WIFA and all other teams that helped me when we started or needed to get kids together to meet each other to have fun. Thank you to current and past club members and parents! If you are an alumni, please comment a photo from your time with the team!
Keep ripping lips! Anderson out 👍🏼😎🐟
