Monday Range Reminder

As always, on Mondays, we’ll be closing our driving range at 3pm, to prep for Tuesday morning mowing.

Christner Extends Metro Lead

2024 Greater South Bend Men’s Metro champ Austin Christner began second round play at Elbel this morning with a 4-shot lead. His one under par round of 71 pushed his 36-hole lead to six but this time 2nd place belongs to Matt Noll.

Christner matched his 5 birdies in Round 1, this time besting par on holes 6, 9, 10, 14 and 15 but bogeys on 3, 5, 7 and 17 added up to 71. Noll eagled the Par 5 11th hole and birdied holes 3 and 15 during his round of 72.

Jonah Kumfer sits 3rd, matching Christner’s 71, low score of the day across all flights, with a round that included an eagle on the Par 5 sixth hole.

Trinity High School golfer Colin Abbott leads the A flight, after a 75 today, the tournament’s low round within the A flight.

Colin made three birdies (Holes 3, 6 and 9) and sits atop the flight’s leaderboard by 2 shots over Robbie Rogers, 3 in front of Leo Goss.

Chad Spencer posted a round of 81 today, taking a 6-shot lead over Al Smith in B flight play.

In C flight action, Corey Sainato leads David “Doc” Krizman by two shots.

With 36 holes complete at Elbel, the Men’s Metro moves over to Erskine next weekend for the final two rounds of competition and camaraderie.

Christner Leads Early at Men’s Metro

Austin Christner fired an opening round of 68 (-4) at Elbel yesterday, sprinting out to a 4-shot lead. Austin won the 100th Men’s Metro, in 2024, making lots of birdies and carded five in yesterday’s round (Holes 1, 2, 11, 12 and 17), against a lone bogey (Hole #9), on his finishing hole.

Three-time Metro champ Ben Szklarek (2018, ’19 and ’25) sits second after a 72. Matt Noll and Ben Mattingly are tied for 3rd , after matching rounds of 73.

Leo Goss and Robbie Rogers are tied for the lead in the A Flight, both posting a 76.

In B flight play, Chad Spencer leads Alan Smith by two strokes.

Joe Santerre leads the C flight by one over Corey Sainato. Ricky Entzian is in third, two back.

Round 2 is underway at Elbel, to be followed by the final 36 holes, at Erskine, next weekend.

Due to current conditions and a mechanical issue, our DRIVING RANGE is closed for the evening, tonight, July 18th.

HOLE-IN-ONE FUN!

Congratulations to Barry Schleiger on his Hole-in-One today at Elbel!

Barry aced our 13th hole using a 6-iron and, gentleman that he is, offered to buy a beverage for clubhouse golfers to celebrate.

Congratulations to Deb Fraser for her HOLE-IN-ONE today at Elbel! Wow!

Deb watched her tee shot, a driver off the 4th tee, sail toward the flag but couldn't see the putting surface, as the green is perched atop a hill. After initially searching the area behind the green, she decided to look inside the cup...and THERE IT WAS!

Way to go, Deb! 🥰
