Yoga has been at the center of Laura’s life for the last 20 years. She has studied and taught multiple styles of yoga ranging from Yoga Nidra to Ashtanga Yoga. Laura’s dedication and curiosity continues to guide her into further knowledge of the body-mind traditions of Yoga. Her love of language, chanting and philosophy recently lead her to complete a Sanskrit Teacher Training with Zoe Mai.

Laura uses her diverse yoga experiences to nuance her teaching method which includes variations, props, and inquiries in support of building a foundation that allows each student to experience confidence and joy in their practice. Laura creates a sense of belonging and community that encourages students to cultivate a relationship with their own unique and sustainable practice. The balance of observation, demonstration, and hands-on assists for each individual is a talent Laura has honed over her years of teaching.

I’m calling it ‘Dear DG’ because the questions that I have been receiving from you fondly remind me of the famous Dear Abby advice column.

Story-time was one of many special aspects of the teacher training experience with Tim Miller at the Ashtanga Yoga Center. After lunch we'd circle around Tim and listen as he read aloud his favorite excerpts of the Rāmayana, Mahābharata or Śrīmad Bhāgavatam. I keep this tradition alive with gratitude in my heart for those who came before.

Story-time and chanting meets on Saturdays from 7:30-8:30am just before the Mysore Style class. I am currently reading aloud from Ramesh Menon's modern retelling of the Mahābharata. This is followed by chanting a chapter from the Bhagavad Gītā. A HYBRID class, if you aren’t able to join us in-person at the studio, perhaps you can join us online via Zoom? Nataraja, Shiva as the Lord of the Dance, symbolizes cosmic cycles of creation and destruction as well as daily experiences of rebirth and death. The last few years have been hard but we rise nonetheless and take heart in new connections. The Shala has settled into its new home at . Breathing, moving, laughing and sweating together - picking up having never missed a beat (of Nataraja’s drum).
