Arroyo Seco Golf Course
Hidden in the shady arroyo below the 110 Freeway in South Pasadena, Arroyo Seco Golf Course opened to the public in October of 1955. Arroyo Seco Golf Course is a tradition in the local community -- great for golf instruction from their experts, for a round of mini golf, or just a spot to hang out.
Their 18-Hole, Par 54, 1,953 yard course offers a challenging game for all ages. Tucked away from the surrounding neighborhood by a mature tree-line, this public course boasts well-maintained fairways and greens.
Enjoy the newly renovated 9-Hole Miniature Golf Course and Driving Range with 33 stalls with distances marked from 50 to 250 yards (back fence).
The driving range has state-of-the-art hitting mats and offers a spacious practice area at a competitive rate. The practice area also has a putting green.

Hello
We have been playing at Arroyo Seco for over 30 years, this is where I actually learn how to play golf. We play every Sunday Tee Times was 8am we normally have two to three groups every Sunday. We have not been able to play do to the Stay At Home order and all course closing. It is my understanding that Arroyo Seco is planning on opening this come weekend. I would like to speak to some to ensure that we have not lost our Tee Times, as we have been costumers for over 30 yrs with the same 8am times. I would like to make sure that your regular costumers don’t lose times they have had with this course. I’m asking for management to reach out to me and confirm, if you are opening this weekend we will continue to have our regular time. The group name is On The Green we have between 8 to 12 players every Sunday. Here are some of the players George MaGallon Ruben Rocha Roy Valdez Joaquin Villa Gabie Vasques Rigo Conejo, if you ask the daily starter he will know us. So I ask for management to reach out to me, at
[email protected]. Thank you very much.

Where Can I Go Alone? by Tracy Newman
You know what I miss? Diners with counters. Musso & Frank’s has a great counter. The Apple Pan is all counter. And The Counter has a great counter. When you go to a restaurant alone, what you want is a counter where you can sit comfortably alone. Sushi bars are great for that, except for the fact that when you walk in the sushi chefs yell at you, calling attention to your aloneness. There’s nothing wrong with going to a restaurant by yourself, but it’s nice to know about places with good counters. It’s also nice to know about music venues that welcome single people who don’t necessarily want a singles bar atmosphere. I recently played two places that are great for loners like me.
Wine & Song is a Wednesday night showcase hosted by Brad Colerick in South Pasadena at the Blue Guitar room at Arroyo Seco Golf Course. Right next door is the Arroyo Seco Grill for food, wine and full bar. I played there twice recently, first just doing two songs when Michael McNevin was guest-hosting, then as the featured act when Brad returned. Wine & Song has cultivated a sweet little community. There are a number of women and men who are there alone. There are couples and little groups, too, but a lot of people wander in alone. There are tables and also rows of folding chairs. You go nextdoor and order food, and they bring it in to you. Nothing fancy here, but not bad. Good fries. The show is very relaxed. Two featured acts, and several pre-arranged “drop-ins.” The night I was featured, the other act was Lucas Last and the Radio Silence Lucas had recently become a dad. He was tired and clearly ecstatic. He had a terrific fiddler with him, whose name I didn’t get. I can’t find much info about Lucas, but he has a future in this. A “drop-in” guest was the very original Chauncey Bowers - worth the price of admission right there. As always, Brad Colerick does a great job hosting as well as playing and singing. He did a new song about how his mother wants to be called “mother” as opposed to any of the other names we call our moms. Very moving. So beautiful. Anyway, you will be comfortable at Wine & Song alone or with friends. Buy tickets in advance. Go to their page for info.
The TubaCzar at The fanaticSalon in Culver City is another easy show to go to alone. In fact, any show at the Fanatic Salon is that way. It seats about 50, I think. No food, but often people bring stuff to the adjoining patio for before, after and intermission. It’s like a party. I often go to shows alone there. Improv shows mostly, but occasionally music shows. This particular night, I was a featured act in Mark Beltzman’s show called TubaCzar, so-called because Mark plays tuba. When you do his show, the rule is he gets to play some of your songs with you. This particular Saturday night, Nov 3, there was me, Lawrence Juber, Hope Juber, Nick Jameson, Tom O'Connor and a duo - Ingrid Lisolette and Lennart Andersson. And the owner of the club, Tommy Mitchell, joined us all for the finale song, The Times They Are a Changin’. (This was a Rock the Vote show, so Dylan seemed appropriate.) Go to the calendar page of fanaticsalon.com and find a show that looks good to you, and go alone!
If you see an ad for something at Kulak's Woodshed in North Hollywood, or a show at the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena… you will feel perfectly fine walking into these places alone, too. And you may end up making a friend, too, if you want.
