There’s a moment every year when you can feel the season beginning to change.

The sun starts setting a little earlier.

The evenings get just cool enough for a fire.

The hills haven’t quite changed colors yet — but you know they’re about to.

And somehow, sitting outside with good food, a drink, a few friends and nowhere else you need to be starts sounding pretty perfect.

Fall is starting to find us at Happy Hollow.

And we think the best evenings of the year are still ahead. 🍂

HOLLOW HORROR IS BACK.

Last fall, we took you inside some of the darkest true stories, crimes and mysteries we could find.

Apparently, that wasn’t enough.

Hollow Horror returns for Season 2. 🩸

Every week, we’ll bring you another true story—strange, unsettling, sometimes unbelievable, and always true.

But this year, something else is happening at the Hollow.

Our resident black stallion, Rene, has a birthday in October. And lately… he’s been acting a little strange.

Coincidence?

Probably.

But we’re keeping an eye on him anyway.

True stories. Strange happenings. Same farm.

Why Not Here?

You see it on social media all the time.

The perfect little Airbnb tucked into the mountains. A beautiful patio under string lights. A cozy fall evening around a fire. A weekend getaway that looks like it belongs in a magazine.

You save it. You send it to someone.

And then you realize…

It’s six hours away.

That thought has been a big part of why we created Happy Hollow.

Why not here?

Why shouldn’t we have beautiful places to escape to right here in our own Appalachian hills?

Why shouldn’t you be able to spend an evening on a private patio, have something good to eat, watch the horses in the pasture, sit around a fire and forget about everything else for a few hours — without turning it into a road trip?

So we started building it.

Today, that means private patio experiences, dining options and evenings at the farm.

That part isn’t a dream anymore.

It’s here.

But Happy Hollow was never meant to stop with a few patios.

Next, we want weekend getaways.

We want special events.

We want experiences that make people from outside our area look at a picture from Southern Ohio and think:

“Where is THAT?”

Because we believe our area deserves nice things, too.

Not imitations of somewhere else.

Not something pretending to be Nashville, Asheville or some mountain town hundreds of miles away.

Something that feels unmistakably like here.

I’m incredibly proud of where I live.

I’m proud of these Appalachian hills and valleys. I’m proud of the winding roads, the woods, the farms, the small towns and the people who call this place home.

And I’m proud to be from here.

Happy Hollow is our little attempt to build something worthy of this place.

Something you’re excited to bring your friends to.

Something you tell people about.

Something that makes those of us who live here a little more proud of what we have in our own backyard.

And someday, maybe Happy Hollow will be one of those places somebody hundreds of miles away sees while scrolling through social media.

They’ll save the picture.

They’ll send it to someone.

And they’ll say:

“We need to go there.”

That’s the goal.

And we have big plans.

Really big ones.

Some days remind us to slow down.

To look around.

To appreciate the people sitting beside us.

To notice the evening air, the sound of horses in the field, a good meal on the table, and the simple privilege of having nowhere else we need to be.

Today is one of those days.

Life moves incredibly fast. We spend so much of it rushing to the next thing that sometimes we forget that these quiet, ordinary moments are the thing.

That idea is part of why we created Happy Hollow.

Not to give you more to do.

But to give you a place to do a little less.

To sit longer.
Talk longer.
Laugh longer.
Watch the sun go down.
Stay by the fire.

And remember that a good life isn’t always made up of big moments.

Sometimes it’s simply recognizing a beautiful one while you’re still in it.

Today, remember to slow down. 🤎
