Behind the scene of Weightlifting
Missing a lift is okay because it’s not the end of the world. As a coach the goal is to teach the athlete that missing a lift is information not failure. A miss lift is part of the learning process, especially when pushing their limits. Missing a lift is part of weightlifting and part of getting better. If you never miss, you might not be challenging yourself enough. What matters is understanding why you missed, making the adjustment and coming back and ready to try it again. Don’t let one miss lift change your confidence and mood. Learn from it and move forward. Everyone misses lifts even experience lifters. Was it technique, timing, positioning, fatigue or simply NOT TODAY. Don’t let frustration from one miss carry into the next lift. The athlete should feel safe pushing themselves without being afraid of failure. The responds to the miss is often more valuable than the successful lift. As Coach said, if these miss lift consume you in a negative way then weightlifting is not for you. Go do Pilates! Weightlifting is for people that have a clear headed open mind…. A miss lift doesn’t define a person, it’s how we act after a miss lift.
